Even easier if you have Russell Speed Bleeders. ;)
http://www.russellperformance.com/mc...domestic.shtml btw: the MC is self bleeding (high point; open to atmosphere). |
Installing Power Slot rotors and Hawk HPS pads this weekend. Question: How much fluid does the system take? The reason I ask is I see online that there is 12oz... then 32oz, then a gallon. I really don't want to buy anymore than necessary for the job. Thanks in advance. Bill

32 oz will cover a full fluid swap with a good amount left over left over... if you're just change pads and rotors, you shouldn't lose that much fluid... I had enough left in the 32oz to change the fluid in my motorcycle too.
walmart had 4oz bottles of prestone DOT4 fluid which would cover that job. I would get 2 bottles if going that route... |

If you are just changing pads and rotors you don't need to crack the hydraulic system. If you are just bleeding the brakes you can probably get by with half of a 16 oz bottle. If you are flushing the system with new fluid you can probably do it with a quart (32 oz)(liter) but might want some extra on hand in case you need more.

^ Yep. Always good to wrap a rag around the MC reservoir (cap ajar of course) when retracting the caliper pistons.

Thanks for the advice guys... Though I don't do any track racing, we are looking at flushing the system when we replace the rotors and pads. I also notice that Prestone makes a synthetic brake fluid. They say it is recommended for anti-lock brakes. Is there any advantage to this over regular Dot-3 fluid?

DOT 5.1 is best if you want ABS surround sound. ;) (couldn't resist)

Is this sound you're referencing an audible "click" coming from each side when first depressing the brake pedal? |

There's really no need for it so they 'value engineered' it out in '06 and beyond.

Thanks for clarifying! I just spent 20 minutes staring at my MC looking for that [bleed nipple].

@ justjim - Thanks man, I appreciate the advice.
|
Just like any car start with the furthest away from the mc, and go down.
