Big brakes and stone guards

Am contemplating a wide rotor setup which will mean i'll have to ditch the stone guard or run different rims . How important is it and what problems have you had by removing it ?

You talking about the metal shield? It’s not for stones as much as general road dirt and grime, might be an NZ cultural thing to refer to it that way though

On the front they come off easy once you get the hub off. The hub may not come off so easy if it has a lot of mileage/corrosion buildup.

shouldn’t really need to come off though, maybe trim it for caliper clearance or hammer it back a little. Because the upright for the lower ball joint is right on the other side of it and you can’t really get rid of it, lol.

It will really be more about the caliper, but none of this is new or never been done before. The standard sizing is pretty good even for track racing with the proper compound pads. Unless you’re putting oversize racing compound tires on; really sticky ones, then you’re not going to see any improvement when the existing brakes already exceed the grip capability of the tires
