Airless Tires:

3 Attachment(s)
New Michelin Tires... Look for 'em in August.

These tires are made in South Carolina , USA .

SEE THROUGH TIRES - radical new tire design by Michelin.
The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

Yes, those are 'spoke' like connections to the inner part of the tire from the outside tread 'wrap!' The next picture shows how odd it looks in motion...

Makes you wonder how the ride feels doesn't it?

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats...
These are actual pictures taken at the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

I believe a production version will have side walls, the see through ones pictured are for simply showing the interior and might effect mpg's in a noticeable way.

mysql101 05-24-2010 10:45 AM

it will have sidewalls. Otherwise you'd get mud and other crud in there and get unbalanced quickly.

PaPaBear 05-24-2010 02:39 PM

Instead of air pressure you have structure resistance. No way to adjust resistance as we can do with air pressure. How does weather effect resistance, heat? cold? Gimmick or practical???

repooossstttt but funny to see again :)

yiksing 05-25-2010 05:18 AM

Imagine cleaning the tires.........:pat: and no more air pressure tuning

HomicidalApple 05-25-2010 06:53 AM

Seems retarded to me....

imop45 05-25-2010 07:06 AM

8 years old. Still not out.

the problem is, they're too loud.

Huey52 05-25-2010 08:07 AM

They've just got to be loud. But then given our ever deteriorating roadways I s'pose it's better that than frequent flats.

+1

and is the air thing really that big of a bother? this may cure punctures and flats, but seems to me to be a totally un-ingenious way to a very minor problem. on wheelbarrels and bicycles, i'd take these
