as title states.
are the tires too wide that they are too much for daily driving?

kennychopra17 02-18-2008 05:47 PM

Is it ever too much :)

Ha...stuff 285's in there...why stop at 275!

staticlag 02-18-2008 06:33 PM

nothing is too much.

Question is can you afford to regularly replace a $250/each tire?

diabolical1 02-18-2008 07:41 PM

aside from the cost, another thing to consider is how smooth the roads that you regularly drive are. remember wider tires tend to drift more, or rather, follow imperfections in the road. not really a big deal, but something to keep in mind.

Ask your question here. And I hope you have an offset in mind.

A related question is whether it's actually faster to run 275s. I know for NA Miatas they're actually faster around tracks on 205s rather than 225s due to the extra mass and drag of the 225s. I think RX-8s are generally faster with 275s, but I know there have been some reports that the 275s' extra mass hindered acceleration out of corners.

can you provide me with a link regarding this matter? this was another questions i had in mind other than driving with such wide tires in the street.

oh, maybe i should let you know what rim i have in mind.

other than that...

based on others responses, i guess it is do-able to drive daily and take it to the track with 275's and i don't have to switching out tires and rims....

Ahhh the balance of 265's vs. 275's....

In N/A trim I have selected 265's as the balance between grip and weight of the tire...however I'm running on R888's so the tire is relatively light compare to other 265's...but when I did the cost vs. weight comparison...the 265's won...

If I'm faster because of it...I'd like to think so...but I'm not 100% sure that its the single biggest factor...I'd imagine as I driver I suck more than the weight of my tires making a bigger difference than my suck...

not too much if you have turbo.
but it is not necessary if your car is NA
