16" Mazda6 Rims on RX8 ATX?

Hey guys, just wanted to ask a quick question, and I searched to no avail.

My mom owns a black '04 8, ATX, with every other option, I believe. 18" rims, nav, leather, moonroof, ground effects, all that good stuff (don't know what all the packages are).

She needs a set of winter wheels/tires for next year, and I was checking out a set of stock 16x7 Mazda 6 rims for really cheap.

Will these fit without problems? I own an '04 6 myself, but we live in different cities so I can't try throwing my stockers on her ride really easily. If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd be appreicative. Thanks!

well if she has the 18" wheels, most likely she got the suspension upgrade (which is standard equipment on the 6 speed 8's) that includes larger front brake rotors. IIRC, 16" *anything* will not fit on those giant brake rotors. You will need at least 17" wheels to fit.

btw Mazda6 17" wheels DO fit on the 8 perfectly, however she will have the TPMS warning light blinking at her if she doesn't install the 6 wheels with Mazda TPMS sensors.

The 16x7.5 Rx8 wheels are also significantly lighter then the 16x7 mazda 6 wheels.

The rx8 16's are around 17-18 lbs, while the 6 wheels weigh in at 23-24 lbs.

the TPMS issue brings up another fitment problem for 6 wheels: TPMS is not standard equipment on the 6, so the wheels may not have been designed to fit Mazda's TPMS sensors.

another option is to look for 17" Mazda3 wheels, those ARE designed to fit Mazda TPMS sensors, as TPMS is an available option on the 3's.

Hmmmm, I didn't recall her having the TPMS, but I've only driven it twice, so I could certainly be wrong. I also don't know if she has the upgraded suspension/brakes. I'll have to find these things out. You say the suspension is standard on the MTX, what would it be called on the ATX? I think I remember it saying "grand touring package" or something like that....?

Does it really matter if they're heavier? These will only be winter snow rims.

I dont know if the AT 8 has got the same brakes as the 6M.

In Europe there is a cheap 8 (5MT 192 hp) with smaller brakes and 16x7,5 as standard rims.I've got the same engine ,but another chassis and brakes that only can fit 17" and larger..

I think you should try,and if there is clearance its OK..

I have got DV Prato 17x7,5 with Nokian Hakkapellitaa 225/45. THey are pretty good, but a bit to wide to perform perfectly in the Scandinavian winter:)

TPMS is standard equipment for ALL RX-8s (no standard spare tire = TPMS + tire repair goo kit :p )

I believe the GT package in the automatic does include upgraded suspension parts, which include stiffer springs/shocks, larger brakes, and 18" wheels (again, these suspension parts are STANDARD equipment on the 6 speed)

yea weight is of no issue if this is just for winter tire duty...

Weight wouldn't matter much for snow wheels...but why spend more money for heavier inferior wheels with there are already cheap as dirt ones avail for the 8.

Heck I've bought a whole set of rx8 16x7.5's for 250, stretch got his WITH tires for 250.
