What happened to my engine?
Hey guys, it's been a really long time since posting here.
One night back in 2013, I was pushing my car really hard on some backroads, and when I came back into my neighborhood just cruising at about 35mph, I turned onto my street and as soon as I pushed the throttle to accelerate, there was a loud *pop* sound in the engine bay and the car just died. I coasted to my driveway and shut of the car. Tried to restart and it restarted, but it sounded really cacophonous and the whole car was shaking. It died again within 6 seconds and then it wouldn't restart again. Just turning over. The engine had about 55k miles on it (factory replacement) and never had any issues with it until then. Unfortunately, I had to leave for Korea the following week, so I had the car towed to my parent's house and it's just been sitting in their driveway since 2013. But I will be visiting home next month and so I want to see what going on with the car. Based on this vague description, what are the damages to the engine? |

Thanks for your response, Soldier.
I know it's practically impossible to know without actually looking into the engine. I guess I was just curious as to whether the damage was catastrophic or not. I'm planning to have the car towed to a local garage for a diagnosis. It's hard to coordinate from anther country though lol. |
Find a Mazda dealer or rotary specialist. Local garages often have no clue.
It would help to know what maintenance had been done to the engine prior to failure. |
