weird idle and no cel light

ok guys

i posted another thread a while ago asking if there was any way to remove the check engine light, i recently istalled my ap midpipe but before i did that i started the car without a cat just to verify if my CEL light works and it didnt come on. and i dont get any codes; i still feel like the private dealer did some shady shit.

another thing is that my rpms drop really low!!! they drop to about 500rpm, it shakes and shudders pretty bad, she had a full tune up (Excep fuel pump or filter) done about 4k ago. it also vibrates kinda bad i have no loss of power or anything she runs fine except for the Horrible Idle, i did remove the walls in the intake and the screens, i read from the numerous thread about the effects from removing the screens. also i replaced the battery but it's not a good quality battery; i was broke at the time and bought a cheapo battery.

?

does the light turn on when you turn on the ignition?
have you tried to reset the computer?

Sounds like you know the answer already then. Screens. Put one of them back and see if that changes your idle. Mazda did put them in there for a reason.

about teh screens yeah i kinda figured, but i just want to cover my bases.

and yea i have reseted the comp and nothing, i dont even get the cel light when i put car in ignition

when i first got the car the light would show and it came on after a few hours after buying the car, i took it back and they "supposedly" fixed it

im not making another thread about my ignition, i just want to make sure that this is something common or if its something i should be worried about.

im not getting any Codes from the comp, can it also be that they could have disabled that too?

Please remove and clean the back side of you throttle body. I had the same issues as you. My car ran fine when accelerating/cruising, but at idle the RPM's would drop and the car would vibrate. I removed my throttle body and looked at the back. There was so much oil and dirt that if there were any more, you would think BP was responsible for it. I used some throttle body cleaner and a rag and now it idles like a champ. The problem is that when your car idles, the throttle body plate doesn't completely close. If you have oil and dirt blocking the small opening for air to get through during idle, you will have a drop in RPM and some vibration. Let me know if it worked for you.

would this vibration also include the rpm's hopping up and down? or is it a steady low idle? I have an idle that kinda makes the car sound like it has a huge cam in it, ranging from average 700 rpm down to 300 and up to 1200.

The 8 is really picky when it comes to the intake. I had a very slow front end 'bump' in a parking lot and afterwards had idle problems. Turns out that a gasket was a little loose. Tightening it fixed the problem. It was so subtle that it was hard to believe that was it.

mushkid 07-12-2010 01:59 PM

the idle is fine now, i put both screens back in 2-3 hp is not worth crappy idle. and the vibrations i can assume are caused by the motor mounts, she has 84k miles now on the original motor; so they must be worn out

i'm just more concerned about the CEL light, my Cousins husband that works at a salvage yard; told me that they sometime put black tape over the CEL light to mask it. he told me to make sure and if they did i can sue, at this point i Want the CEL to come on because i like to know when my car is asking for help.

mushkid 07-12-2010 02:00 PM

when i first bought the car it actually worked, after i gave it back to fix the cel that popped up and waited for two days to get it back, it stopped working

wait- you're complaining about NOT having a CEL? why do you think you should have aCEL?

He haz midpipe. Not everyone gets a CEL from the cat being gone. I have no idea why though...:dunno:

If the light comes on when you turn the key to the "on" position then it works. It's really that simple. The only way the codes can be masked is if someone used a Cobb Accessport or other tuning device and reprogrammed your PCM to mask some of the codes. Mazdamaniac does this for folks with midpipes.

Did you get an Accessport with the car? You'd know if you did. The easiest way to check is to bring your car to the dealer and have them check and update your PCM to the latest flash. Any tampering or masking should be cleared out or they will be locked out by whatever tuning unit was used to tune your car and will be able to tell you.

no cobb or cel, when i took the car in at mazda they couldn't pull any codes, i know it sounds weird that i wish for there to be a CEL but remember i am almost at the end of my warranty and i would like to kno what is going on.

i was thinking of going to mazda just to be sure; now in the event that the private dealer did use something to mask my CEL can i do something about it?
