Warm engine will not restart

2005 AT

I always make sure my engine is warm before shutting down to avoid flooding problem.
However, whenever I shut off my car, it will not restart unless I wait more than 10 mins after shutting down. If I try to start sooner, it cranks but will not start. After waiting 10 minutes, it starts no problem.

Anyone with similar problem and how to fix ????

Type "warm start" into an advanced search for titles only and you should have a whole lot of helpful threads come up.

Poor compression. Get it checked at your local dealer. It is most likely time for a new engine my friend. How many miles do you have? I would guess between 60,000 and 70,000 miles.

If you have enough fuel ( fuel pump:) ) you should get a compression test :)

If the fuel pump is crapping out they can fail like that.......is there a difference with how much fuel there is in the tank?

I have about 60K.
I already took it ti the dealer and they only suggested changing plugs and wires but my plugs only have about 10K on it. They are not sure if this will fix problem and could not suggest anything else.

No difference based on fuel level. Even when stop to fill up gas, I have to sit and wait before restarting. Can only buy gas at non busy times as other customers get angry when I don't move.

Please give us some more info... What mods have you got?...How long have you had it?... Have you ever done a de-carbon cleaner? What kind of driving does it get?
If the plugs only have 10K on them they should be ok as long as your coils are good. Have the coils and wires been replaced? If all that has been done a good de-carbon cleaning might improve compression.

Do you know if you have the original starter that came on the '05 or if your car has had the starter upgraded?

RC1998 01-02-2011 05:58 PM

Car is all original equipment - no mod.
I asked dealer about compression test and was told that if loss of compression, will feel loss of power while driving. Should not affect starting.

Your dealer is an f'n retard.
That is simply not true.

terch1 01-02-2011 07:00 PM

+1 Take it to another dealer. They are going to want to replace your ignition coils, plugs, and wires first to see if this helps the issue. They have to go through a series of checks and balances prior to replacing your engine. You most likely need new coils, plugs, and wires if you have all original parts. Bottom line is your going to need a compression test done. If this dealer isn't willing to do this take it to another dealer.

the first thing they should have done is check the battery and starter, not plugs and wires. go to a battery place and have the starter and battery checked.

Hey Terch - you were right. Took a lot of testing and discussions but I am now a member of the new engine club (reman).

lateralus 02-23-2011 10:19 PM

Was it covered under warranty or did you pay out of pocket?

RC1998 03-01-2011 07:24 PM

That 8 year engine core warranty is a good thing

longpath 03-01-2011 09:17 PM

I was having this same issue; but then my job site changed and instead of driving two miles to the train station, I'm driving 50 miles to get to my new job. After a week of that, I can shut down after an hour of driving and immediately restart. Before assuming that the engine is done, give it a good and thorough decarbon. If the problem persists, then you probably have poor compression.
