Vibration on idle
After picking up the car and coming back home, I felt vibration coming from breaks...
Dont think its wapred disc or rotor since it's ok when breaking... but after coming to a full stop and idle for the green light, I can feel the vibration from break. The vibration feels like when your legs get numbed.... dont know how to describe this.. but anyways. It is VERY ANNOYING. Anyone having this problem? Also, anyone living in Bergen county area in NJ? Would like to other RX's and how they are like... thought rotary engines were quite, but my car is very loud... :( |
I gather it is brand new. The engine needs to be broken in and then it will idle a little smoother. But in any event, it alsmost feels like a buzzing or something ? Right? I have the same. Its just the way the rotary works. Don't worry.

Do you have the automatic transmission? Several others have bad idle vibration in drive and reverse while braking (brake-torque condition). Try putting the car in neutral while idling--does the vibration go away? If so, the brake-torque condition is causing excessive powertrain vibration, which is being transmitted to the body through the powertrain mounts and exhaust hangers. Try sitting in another auto RX-8 and see if it exhibits the same problem. If so, it's probably normal for the auto RX-8 and you're out of luck. If not, your car may have a problem. One good possibility would be bound up engine/transmission mounts and/or excessively preloaded exhaust hangers. Ask the dealer to investigate the problem, and a mount neutralization procedure should be covered under warranty. Good luck.

Guessing its either AT's problem or just my bro's.... Anyone with AT having vibration problem, too? If not... damn stealership time again! |
I have this problem... Taking it to the dealership to have them look at it. Has anyone had any luck at the dealership with this?

You need new motor mounts.

I have almost 19000 miles on mine and its doing the same thing (AT). So I guess I need the dealership to look at it then? I found the word "chug" was a good feeling description for the vibration.

I just called the dealership and told them about the problem. They said they had never encountered the problem before. Oh, well, Ill have them look at it tomorrow.

I am having a really bad problem with my car running really ruff, in gear and in neutral. I took it to the dealership today and was told that Mazda doesnt know what is causing it but should have a fix by January. WTF...I will call them tomorrow and see if motor mounts will fix the problem. Thanks for the info!

The motor mounts have nothing to do with your car running rough. I know a couple people here with RX8's and we all were suffering with the rattling, and it was the motor mounts. If it's running rough you should take it in and not take any BS because mazda service depts. love to shell out the BS.

Steakboy42, Wildone, remember Rule #1 for dealing with bad dealership service departments - Take your car to another dealership.... at least until your most local dealership gets their act together again. Service centers end up under new management from time to time, especially if all their business vanishes due to their bad rep.

I took mine in yesterday and the service writer mentioned that there is a TSB for updated motor mounts the A/T and the M/T. I so far haven't found any supporting info though.
My Vibration started after the motor was swapped, before the swap at idle in D/R it had NO vibration. From what I have read the 8's mounts are sensitive. EDIT: What I found. A little older but good info. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=motor+mounts |
Yeah, when i took the car up to them, it wasn't doing the vibration. Figures. They told me they couldnt even look at it without the tech feeling the complaint. Total f-ing bulls-t. I told them exactly what it was and they blew me off. Scrach that, they told me to bring it back when it did it again. unfortunately, i work from 7 till 430 everyday of the week, so when i drive the car to work, it's too early, and if it does it on the drive home (which it did the day i took it there), by the time i get up there, they are closed.

I will be taking my car back up on friday. Do you all think that if I examine the mount myself and if i find it cracked and photograph it, will they fix it? I mean if I have photographic proof that it's cracked, they don't need to have a tech sit in the car and feel the vibration and blame it on bad fuel or idle, they can just fix it. Right? my next closest dealer is about an hour away, so taking it to them is not something i wanna have to do.

I usually am not pushy about something unless it becomes nessasary for me to do so. like when noone could get me a spare key for my 8 and my salesmen left the dealer so i talked to another salesmen and nothing happened for 2 months until i finally went in and talked to the head salesmen and he got me a key cut right then and there free of charge. Thank you for your advice. I will try not to be a dick with the tech. maybe i can find the cracks, no guarantees though.
