Vacuum fitting broken

I posted last week about some check engine codes I had in this post and I figured out the problem. I broke off a vaccum line fitting on the extention manifold (upper intake plemun). It is a vaccum line that is about 3 inches, has some white and green ball with a one way check valve and goes back into the extention manifold. It is right above the oil filter, I probably broke it when I changed the filter. Problem is that the plastic nipple that the vaccum line goes into on the manifold broke off and is in the vaccum hose. Right now I put a piece of duck tape over the hole. I still have the engine light, but I assume that it will stay on for a few drive cycles. So I guess I have 3 options. 1) New intake extention manifold, $363. 2) glue the piece back on which I would have to take the thing off anyway. 3) leave the tape on there. Any reccomendations? Would gluing it on be a good idea?

Any Pettit supercharger owners want to sell me their old extention manifold?

Fixed for $2.

If anyone has this issue in the future, I fixed the fitting for 2 dollars and about 2 hours of my Friday evening. I picked up a nylon hose connector (see picture below, this is only half of it, the other half is in my car) at Ace hardware. I used a 3/8 size, which is slightly smaller than the old fitting but the barbs on it are a bit bigger. I took the upper intake plenum off, and drilled out the old hole with a 5/16 bit. I then pushed the new fitting in with a pair of needle nose. The new connector is very tight in there, I could not pull it out with just my hand. The hose reattached much more snug on the new barbed fitting than the old fitting. I put everything back together and the car now runs fine. No more power loss in the mid RPMs.

Other options are buying the new part which is 363 from onlinemazdaparts and it will take you just as long since the majority of the time is getting the thing off and on. Or taking it to a Mazda dealer, the list price of the part is $450, so I figure about a grand.

Here is the old fitting and the unused other side to the new fitting. The half I used had a longer stem.

Without the vac source from that nipple your VFAD, VDI and SSV valves wouldn't open...that's why you got a CEL :)

good work - glad you got it fixed without spending a bunch of $

Digging up an oooolllldddd thread, but I've been fighting a CEL, EVAP leak large for a while, just noticed that this line wasn't connected, the hose had come off the fitting. Would this throw a P0455? The SSV was clicking furiously, reckon this is why....at the same time I started getting this code, I was getting random codes for lean banks, etc....hope this fixes it, I've gone over everything else.

Yep...you could get those codes from that :)

I hope that's it. I reset the CEL, gonna drive it for a few days and then take it to AZ to have the codes read again(also showing codes from the midpipe). Many thanks.

Hi guys, i am new here:) i came across this thread.

I bought my rx-8 a few months ago, not from a dealer. Since the beginning i've had my CEL go on randomly and go off randomly. Went to my local mazda dealer and they changed the coils and reseted the CEL. Now a week later the CEL goes back on again.

So i got myself a OBD2 Scanner and read it, got back the code p0171. So i believe i got the same problem as GotBass. But where is that hose located?

Diggin up an old thread.
Got this code today while driving about 75 on the freeway. The car ran the same until i was putting some load going up a hill and it was 100 degrees. It was doing good until it began to bog and free rev while in D (4 speed auto). Then the engine turned off. It wasn't over heating. I tried to turn the engine over but it wouldn't. I waited 15 mins and the car started. Would that hose cause this problem too? I got the code read today and it was the only one.
Any suggestions?
