trunk release button stuck?
The button under the rear bumper is constantly opening the trunk when the key remote is nearby (advanced keyless system). I suspect it may have been the cold weather tonight causing the rubber dome of the button to harden up a bit and not recess away from the activation point. The thing is, this has never happened before, and tonight is not an exceptionally cold night (low 40s). Has anyone else ever experienced this? If it keeps up tomorrow, I'll be taking it to the dealership.

I had this fixed at the dealership. If I recall, it was the antennae that went out and they replaced the modules. I remember reading somewhere on the forum that these modules (especially the one in the trunk) are prone to corrosion.
Example threads: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/red-key-light-dash-keyless-entry-antenna-location-165856/ https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/advanced-key-problem-2006-shinka-171384/ To start, I would replace the battery in your key (both if you have them) to rule out both a dead battery and a faulty key. (not likely that two keys are broken) Hopefully you still have your car under warranty. If that is the case, then take it to the dealership after trying this. |
