Trouble starting when warm

Hi
I have a 04 RX which has always started on the button but over the last 6 months it has trouble starting after driving 3-5 miles, turning it off for 5 minutes, then attempting to start it again. I have to turn it over for about 2 minutes before it starts!
I have no problems first thing in morning, or after it has been left for a few hours or even freezing cold.

I was told by my local dealer that I needed a new updated starter motor, but it starts perfectly at all other times. So there is obviously nothing wrong with current one.

Anyone else had this problem or has heard of it before

Thanks in advance

Low engine compression over time (carbon buildup) makes warm re-starting more difficult. The newer starter (mid-2005 build and on), which you should definitely get, and a well maintained total ignition system (battery, coils, cables & 'plugs) help to overcome, as of course does not building up too much carbon in the first place ("redline a day' after warmup).

Advanced search "hot start" will show you that you're far from alone in this situation; actually now a number of links on the page below.

Thanks Huey
Had new plugs etc put in few months back, so may have to look at getting the 05 onwards starter

I had a similar problem, it kept getting worse though and eventually it would have to cool off for a good hour/hour and a half before it would start again. But when running I had no problems, didn't feel low on power. So I took it in to the dealership, they found what the called 'low static compression after warm up' but the 'dynamic compression' was fine which is why it was fine when it ran but didn't want to start after it had been run. :dunno: long story short I got a new engine under warranty.

Hopefully your under 100,000 miles, good luck.

Hi bose
Thanks for reply, I think I am going to get the "new improved" starter motor
Hopefully it has not got low static compression....whatever that is lol
I am in England and we only get 1 yrs warranty....not 100,000 miles, so hope do not need a new engine :(
