I just installed a newer tranny because my last one was making some awful noise so I thought I would be proactive before it went. My new tranny had 25 k on it. I am about 500 miles into it now.

Driving home last night I was at about 75 - 80 mph and I went to down shift to accelerate. She wouldn't go into any gear, including 6th which is what I was in. After coasting for about a mile or so I was able to get the car into 4th. I tried other gear but she wouldn't go.

After about a mile or so in 4th I tried the other gears again and all of a sudden she was back to normal. So from there on in I drove in 6th very conservatively. When I got to my off ramp she wouldn't get out of 6th, as hard as I tried. When the car got to a low enough speed she suddenly went back to nothing was wrong. I could now switch nicely between all gear but I did smell some burning clutch.

I drove her to work the very next morning and no issues. I went to lunch with her and still no issues. Finally on the way home I once again was not able to get out of 6th gear until I went under 4K RPM's. Once I did then she went back to normal once again.

I tried driving her one last time and now she once again had an issue with getting in any gear and now she is sitting in my garage stuck in 6th and even though she is off I can't get her out of gear.

Any ideas of what might be happening would be greatly appreciated. I don't know what to do

UPDATE: I got her out of 6th by shimmying the shifter. Right now it looks like I have 1st through 4th but obviously something is very wrong. Help please.
