there is nothing wrong with the stock clutch, it engages just fine. if yours is spongy then there is something wrong with your car, perhaps the flywheel was machined and the step not added or you just got a faulty pressure plate which happens.

the engagement is fine, the only real reason one might reconsider the Exedy is that they tend to explode sometimes.. but then again i just pulled a cheap clutch from a car that also kinda spit all the friction material from the plates as well.

i think his point was that, to him, the exedy version of the oem clutch feels spongier than the actual oem (from mazda) clutch. i don't know whether this is true or not, or if there is any difference whatsoever between the mazda/exedy clutches.

Exactly. I miss my real oem clutch. Even when it was burnt out it still didn't feel as spongy as my clutch now lol.

Thanks for all of the input guys, I really appreciate it! Sorry it took me awhile to comment, I've been working non stop for the past few days. More money for the car though! And I will probably go with a s2 transmission after the one I bought blows up. And if Exedy's are prone to exploding, is there any other clutch brand that's recommended? I just figured Exedy by hunting around the forums a bit. And I really don't mind a stiff clutch, I'm still young. I would rather have a decently stiff clutch than a soft one, I just love the way they pop out. Just nothing to extreme.

The "actual" OEM clutch IS an Exedy clutch.
Part #MZK1002.

Thank you, I was going to say this. I just had to replace mine (96k on the original) along with the slave cylinder. She works great now.

Recently had a new 'Stage 2 Clutch' installed for my RX8 - Only got the Stage 2 as no other clutches were available from what I could find.

Car feels FANTASTIC at high RPM, but at low RPM, it's noisy and almost embarrassing as it sounds like something is wrong with the car.

Garage stated that they suspect the master cylinder is on its way out which could explain it but I'm certainly regretting my decision to go with the Stage 2! Should have kept the knackered clutch! :(

Stage II on the street with a light wt flywheel is all about dumping the clutch at the right revs.
Yes a little abusive and not advisable for a daily driver.
I went back to a stage I btw.

I finally recognized that no matter how many times I tried go tell people not to make that mistake it was going to take them learning the hard way to finally get it. So for that cause and purpose this is what they get now instead:

Team, I haven't been around here for some time. So it just jumped out at me seeing you still are. Perfect Rx8 owner...stubborn.
Anyway just wanted to say Hi.

TeamRX8 10-04-2023 05:24 PM

I could say the same about you still being an RX8 parts vendor 🤣
