Tranny Issues Again

OK so ive read all about everyones tranny issues and it seems very redundant....Im having problems putting my 8 inreverse and when shifting at high rpms it hesitates to go into 3rd is anyone else having these kinda problems and every time i call the dealer they say they are booked up for the week so im just gonna show up on monday..... all these tranny problems are getting really old....

Im with ya.

and I will change the fluids today to see if it helps.

if not ... Dealership here I come ! :(

The trouble getting in reverse is because reverse does NOT have synchros.

The easiest way to get it in reverse is after you crank the car, put the car in neutral. Let off the clutch. Push in the clutch again and attempt to put it in reverse.

Also its easier to feel it out with a short shifter.

For the 3rd gear problem, does it grind? Or does it take a second to get through the gate?

Mine takes a brief second to get through the gate. It usually falls in when the RPMs drop enough in between shifts that it rev matches on its own.

Also your from Texas. Which part? You might want to go to one of the meets and see if its normal operation or your transmission is really broken.

im in katy like 30 mins from houston.. if i shift above 5,000 and speed shift it grinds but if i do it normally it just hesitates for a second to go in.......I dropped off my 8 at the dealership today just a load of bad news they tried to convince me to relpace the clutch, clutch cover, clutch release cllar, bearing needle, seal oil and seals,, total costing 1,038.00 deff a bad day if its the clutch only im going with a exedy stage 2 racing clutch for 337.00 lifetime warranty installed myself for free..

ok update on my 8 just called dealership they say many problems with what seems to be clutch issues is actually a broken clutch pedal which in what it is so far they havent checked anything inside the tranny yet will update when i get more info

HeavyMetal699 03-10-2009 02:45 PM

Mine does the same thing especially when I really redline it. Dealership just rebuilt my transmission last week for another problem.

I think this is pretty normal for the transmission in the RX-8. It just takes a second for it to get through the shift gate.

As far as the clutch, there are tricks to see if its slipping.

Yes I know about the syncho thing ~~~ and no I can't go into reverse 1/2 the time.

Tranny has a problem -_-

Im gonna do something else see if it helps

silverkillrx8 03-10-2009 02:53 PM

yea im happier knowing its just the pedal lol i deff wasnt ready to drop a grand on it today lol

Mine sometimes has problems going into reverse or just going into gear in general. Usually happens upon start up and especially on cold mornings (transmission isn't warmed up yet). And it goes into gear better at some RPM's than others (slides like butter between 4 and 5K). I wouldn't give too much thought to it, but if you're grinding then thats something else..

ok just got my 8 back from the dealership after 3 days, somthing seemed very strange after picking it up all gears worked like i got a new clutch reverse is very easy to get into now even on a cold day so ne one having reverse issues or other issues should deff have ur clutch pedal checked out idk how this would affect shifting and the smoothness of getting into gear but it did in my situation

New cluthch pedal + clutch adjustment?

rotary.enthusiast 03-13-2009 01:07 PM

If your pedal is flexing/broken, or if it is not adjusted properly the clutch will not fully disengage. This will cause difficulty getting into gears, because your synchros will have to overcome the force of the clutch against the flywheel before the gear speeds will synchronize. You won't be able to get into reverse at all because it has no synchros.

I believe that 95% of people's transmission problems (not including those who thrash on it at the track) are related to this. If you don't get it fixed, you will destroy your synchros and will have a very expensive repair on your hands if you're out of warranty.

Get your clutch pedal brackets welded if you haven't already! :spank:

I have the same problem and i took it down to the dealer and they said warranty wants them to break apart the transmission and take pictures of the inside. after they took it apart they told me that the thing that holds all the gears together had broke in half and that is why my 2nd gear grinds. if warranty doesnt cover it then its gonna cost me 1200 to have the tranmission taken out and broken apart and put back in. if warranty covers it, theyre just gonna replace the entire transmission.

id say check your clutch pedal.. and get the AF shifter it makes wonders.... i adjusted my own clutch pedal and it made it much better.
after i got my tranny rebuilt it would not shift into any gears at high rpm.. adjustment to the clutch pedal helped.. and the clutch pedal started to go bad it wouldnt shift into any gears without grinding at high rpms

silverkillrx8 03-16-2009 05:20 PM

yea after getting my car bak they told me that my next investment is a new clutch but other than that shifting is a breeze at any time high rpm's and cold start but deff get it checked out if u have this problem my synchros was messed upp to my total bill for the day was over 1600 but warranty covered 1500 of it thank god for extended warranties lol

myriadshalaks 03-16-2009 05:21 PM

i would tell it to have that thing removed or else forget anything ever happened.

RXRE8SUN 03-23-2009 12:22 PM

I bought mine used 2 years ago, and it always had a problem going into second, until last night when something happened and iit would not go into first then, got stuck in first. I forced it out of first, now all gears work accept first ( cant get in. Sounds like I need to get in there and replace what is broken. It felt like plastic the shifter was pushing through plastic, when I forced it.
