TPMS Warning Light
 

Aight so its starting to get cold over here in Boulder Colorado and as a result the pressure in my tires dropped and the TPMS light came on, naturally I added a few ol' PSI's of air to all the tires but the light didn't turn off. Then it did, then it came back on, then it went off, then it went back on again...you get the drift. Its the coldest its been today and I checked the tires and they're all coming in around 33 PSI which is right in the range I believe and yet the light is still on. Even after some spirited driving where i'm positive there's heat in the tires the light stays on. When its warmer out the light just will not make up its mind, it goes back and forth. I've never been blessed with a car that has these pressure system thangs so is it possible one of em is busted and if so is it easy to replace? And if so so, where do I get them? Or is this a problem a lot of people have? ALSO! if any of you work at the Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield and drive a Series 1 Grey Rx8, I'm the black Rx8 thats always parked next to you.

Moved to troubleshooting.

It will come on for over-pressure as well as under-pressure, and they only have about a 8psi range that they see as normal. I assume you balanced all 4 pressures to the same point? Ideally around 32psi. There may be slight variances, but my TPMS comes on at 28psi and at 36psi.

My tires take 51psi

is there any way I can change the warning set-points?

Does the computer limit preformance when the warning is on?

What, are you driving your car with bicycle tires?
Why in the world are you inflating your tires to 51 psi?

Oh, wait, you're one of those people who thinks the max inflation rating on the sidewall of the tire is the pressure the tires is always supposed to be inflated at.

Well,

YOU'RE WRONG.
Stop doing that.

There is a sticker on your door. It says what the pressure is supposed to be.
Inflate them to that.

Your tires can take 51psi before EXPLODING.

Tires heat up when you drive, expanding the air. Expanding air will increase the PSI of the air inside. 52psi comes quick and BOOM, you are skating across the road on your bare rims with no control.

Knock off a few PSI and you are still minimizing your contact patch to about 1/3rd of what it should be, and only on the center of the tire. Limited grip, lots of center wear.

And your TPMS system will be complaining the whole time, since it looks for the tire to be at their OPTIMAL pressure of 29-34 PSI. My light comes on at 28psi or less and at 35psi or higher.




Just set them at the right pressure... Zero reason to set it higher.


And no, you can't chance the trip points.
