Surge while crusing at 45mph!

So my check engine light came on about a week ago. My car has been running fine, and I figured the CEL came from some of my recent mods (cat-back, high flow cat, and revi intake), but today when I was on my way to work crusing at about 45mph my car suddenly lurched forward. I searched around and found something similar but that is for an AT 8 and I have a MT 8. Any thoughts on what this could be. I'm thinking maybe coils, but im not sure at all. Still seems to be running fine but the surge foward today has me a little worried. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Additional info:
I have an 04 MT 8 GT with about 33k miles. I have an RP supercat (newest version), TurboXS exhaust, and the revi intake I mentioned earlier.

i'd go somewhere and have the code pulled so you can see what it is and go from there. i certainly wouldn't take it to the mazda place. first thing they will say is that your mods caused the problem and will try to void your warranty.

my mazda dealer seems to be one of the good ones. I told them about everything, but the intake. The service manager said " We're all younger guys here and we all modify our cars. I'll never void your warranty for doing the same". But those were only words and it was before I did anything to the car. Im gonna do a search for something to pull codes from our cars (canscan and such), but any suggestions for pulling codes would be greatly appreciated.

What gear and RPM were you at when this happened. Too low of RPM and the car will surge while trying to maintain a constant speed.

Autozone and such do it for free.
