Starting trouble please help!

Hi All,

I have a 2004 231bhp RX8 with 80000 miles on, recently it started having a lot of difficulty starting when hot and no trouble when cold, i have replaced the fuel pump with an uprated one which made no difference, i have upgraded my starter also and fitted a new slightly larger capacity battery which also has made no difference, the plugs and leads arent that old but it did used to have the RE8C-L plugs as leading ones which i was advised to change to RE7C-L plugs, something to do with the temperature or something, could this be my problem as can't remember having issues before changing to different plugs, i have also done the seafoam thing which helped it run a lot smoother but did not affect the hot start problem i am having, is there anything else i can possibly do or try? obviously the cheapest option first.

Thanks in advance.

Well you already replaced parts without knowing the issue. Just like taking medication before knowing the desease... but just the symptoms :)
Hot start issues are usually related to the following:
Low compression
Clogged catalytic converter
Fuel pump
Ignition system (only if the first issue applies)
Starter (see above)

A fresh ignition system and a stronger starter only mitigate the main issue 99% of the time...

I'd go for a compression test and catalytic converter inspection first and start from there.

Stick with the OEM spark plugs. The only reason to change is if you have forced induction. The OEM ones are really the best plugs for it.

See bse's list for where to start.
