Start up Issues...PLEASE help
 

ok guys so here is my situation..

car stopped turning on about 2 weeks ago.. very sad

needed to replace my coils i knew it because ive had this problem before.. 04 with now 109k on it..

so yesterday replaced the coils.. all four.. i have RB 8mm Racing wires n fairly new spark plugs.. so after replacing my coils i cranked and it wouldnt turn over.. tried the method provided in the DIY thread n just my luck.. nothing..

so i knew i was flooded n last time i was flooded i just took out all the spark plugs n sanded away all the gunk n cleand them real good n there it went started right up!!

well did the same thing this time.. n no luck.. well after a couple times using the method here it started to turn over a bit. it turned on for about 1 sec.. i got so excited to almost hear my exhaust.. lol well tried a couple more times n it seemed very promising this times... i was using carb choke in my throttle body to help which almost did.. tried this only cuz i didnt have any starter fluid.. anyways.. so after 12 hrs of trying.. im stuck...

any other options or some word of advice.. please and thank yu in advance

Is your battery still good after all this cranking? Does the battery have enough left to start the car after all this cranking? Any chance you have a volt meter? Sounds like your doing things right, but is the power there in the battery to start the car?

yeah it is i took it to autozone for a recharge..

i tried with a jump but everytime i hook each battery to each other i get fukking shocked they spark on both ends.. prolly new cables..

but yeah batt has a charge...

could it possible be my starter??

If you have an '04 with the original starter... its definitely not helping.

I just went through all that. I could almost get it to start, then slow cranking and its over. I had to jump my new redtop battery! Only when it was turning like peak fast was I even having a chance. I would just go back in and let it sit and charge, I did it for hours. Finally got it. If you think you have flooded it badly, there is a bright greenish/yellow 20 amp fuse to stop the fuel pump. I actually pulled the fuse and my car started and ran for about 1 minute no kidding. Then I put the fuse back in went in and let it charge and it did start the next time. Good luck. But I am a rx8 rooky just happen to be living it right now also.

Some of us here had there car from the beginning and have dealt with flooding for many years.
There are so many useful methods to deflood now... from pulling the spark plugs, to pull-starting (manual), to using washer fluid (which I've done a couple times).

Honestly... with my '04, I have the Optima Red Top battery and upgraded starter.
And I've been able to recover from a flood by just giving it a few good cranks.
Crank it for 10sec, let it rest for a few (so the starter doesn't burn out), then crank again.
I've never had to recharge the battery since the upgraded starter.
I get it going before its drained (before it was difficult to not come close to draining).

Easy way to start a flooded rotary is with a tow rope at about 25 mph or so. Beats the heck out of cranking, pulling plugs, cranking, running batteries down etc...

If cranking with the EGI fuse isn't helping, is the engine getting ignition and fuel? A timing light is a good tool to test the ignition. Are the plugs carboned or gased up? It's a good idea to pull them, clean them. If the plugs are wet, pull them and take a lighter to them. Plugs can get fouled surprisingly easily. I've pulled plugs on an engine that starts that had an electrode worn down 1/8", and 3/32" of carbon on top. I've seen plugs that look more or less fine, but do not work properly. Replacing the plugs has immediately resolve starting issues for myself and others I know on multiple occasions. Plugs can become fouled very easily. I would say that after hours of cranking there is a good chance yours are fouled.

You can do a bump start from behind as well, but there's a decent chance of paint damage, even with make shift protection. Pull starts are better, but might make some people uncomfortable from a safety perspective.

Probably the most popular methods to deflood is either a pull/tow start or pulling the spark plugs out and flushing the fluid out.
The spark plug pulling method is:
1) Remove the fuel pump fuse (to cut the fuel) and disconnect the eccentric shaft sensor (to cut the ignition).
2) Remove the spark plugs.
3) Have someone in the car cranking the engine while you hold a rag over the spark plug holes to catch the fluid.
4) Install the plugs, install the fuel fuse, and reconnect the sensor.
