sputtering between 2-5k rpm, low compression?
so i am just waiting for my next paycheck so i can go get a compression test. she started showing signs of a neccesary tune up about a month ago. the car was having long cranks to start, massive power loss and sputtering at about 6-8k rpm also moderate engine vibration.
after the tune up; the engine vibration is sorta there and she struggles to pass 2-3k rpm after 1st gear (also only when i drive sportier) if im cruising normally then she drives fine. i havent checked my cat to see if it's clogged, but i doubt it is because it was replaced 30k miles ago. i have read that a compression test is a must for all 2004 models w/ 80k+ miles. i want to be ready for the whole fight with mazda about the warranty in the event the motor is toast. i bought the car 6 mos ago with 78k from a private dealer, i recently had to change the water pump and i have done all my oil changes at firestone. in the event of the motor swap am i screwed? also no check engine light |
so the compression test is 98 dollars, is that about average?

That's cheap actually. It's what it should be. They aren't raping you there.
Most dealers charge $300+ for a compression test. |
