Sohn Omp Adaptor + 2 Stroke Problem

okay i installed the sohn omp adaptor with a nice canister
i let the vehicle run for about 15 mins with some 7.5k rpms
the vehicle ran like previously.
did a short road test to exchange the 4-stroke with the 2-stroke
there was a small bubble but its gone now.
however the car now sounds like a real 2 stroke.
major power loss and backfiring like a bitch when off throttle.

so help me out guys....

is it ?
A. over calibrated omp due to the disconnected computer :Freak_ani <----Winner!!!
B. shitty ass no name 2-stroke oil? :fingersx:
C. fouled plugs (both are at 10 rating) :fingersx:
D. clogging cat??? :fingersx:
E: lost apex seal? :crying:

the vehicle starts fine, idles perfectly
so im hoping for a-c just feels like ebrake is on all the time
and after 6k sounds like a 2-stroke....

so far no check engines
and running the bhr coils so should be no issues there...
help me oh gurus as this is my 2nd rx8 which is lightly modified unlike my last
only this time this one has the omp adaptor....

sound bite to come shortly

A. over run omp due to the disconnected computer :fingersx: Disconnected computer? Why is a computer disconnected for the SOHN? It's strictly a mechanical part requiring no computer disconnection. If you disconnected something for this then that was your fatal move.
B. shitty ass no name 2-stroke oil? :fingersx: Very unlikely. Keep in mind any 2-stroke oil burns better than normal motor oil.
C. fouled plugs (both are at 10 rating) :fingersx: Doubtful unless it was a coincidence they fouled at the same exact time you serviced the vehicle
D. clogging cat??? :fingersx: Same answer as C
E: lost apex seal? :crying: Same answer as C

I would make sure you actually using oil from your reservoir. So long you are and there are no leaks between the omp-SOHN-engine then you should be good to go. This adapter doesn't change anything other than different oil or rather, proper oil being fed to the seals. So unless you disconnected something you should not have (disconnected computer) or didn't hook it up right and it's not using or feeding the seals oil you in no way whatsoever should be experiencing what you are.

I agree 100% with Vlaze. There should be no change in how the car runs after installing the SOHN. I just marked the level of the 2 stroke on the reservoir with a Sharpie the first time I filled it so I could be sure it was working correctly. Any air bubbles should be worked out itself.

..What they said.
What do you mean by disconnected computer?

Talic 12-01-2009 10:50 AM

okay faulse alarm. the battery was removed to make life easy to put in the sohn.
turns out once it sucked all the 4 stroke out and was tasting the 2 stroke it was feeding it too much i reset the computer again the bog and backfires are gone.
car is screaming again.. so lessoned learned after the lines empty of 4 stroke u gotta reset the comp for the 2 stroke

Vlaze 12-01-2009 10:52 AM

Sorry but that doesn't make any sense. The same amount of oil is being fed with or without the adapter. No one I know of had to reset anything when installing this thing. Weird.

-shrug-

thats why i was freaked
while i was driving home after the swap, the car kept getting heavier and heavier and louder and louder. i posed here and pulled the plugs they werent too bad. only about 15k on them so i cleaned and put them in. fire the car and went for a drive with no change. came back and pulled the battery terminals and waited a few mins. put it back on fired the car and it was totally normal again. so my conclusion is that the 20w60 4 stroke was being injected less? then the colder 2stroke oil? i did about 28kms of just 0-225kms to 9k rpms every gear and everything is a-okay.

9krpmrx8 12-01-2009 11:00 AM

The car doesn't know if it's two stroke or regular motor oil being injected. I always disconnect the battery when working but there is no need to remove it to do the SOHN. Weird indeed.

Vlaze 12-01-2009 11:05 AM

Just an extra tip but you should never disconnect the positive without disconnecting the negative on a battery first. Otherwise you could short the battery and even the ECU.

Talic 12-01-2009 11:07 AM

i understand that... but doesnt the omp recalibrate after its first live ignition after battery disconnect? who knows anyways its gone and the car is running great...
you gotta remeber when i finished the sohn the car was cold then this recalibrate the car was already hot -shrug-
yes the negative and possitive were removed -i edited above-
