Smoke, And Slight Hesitation
Info
04 6 Speed 64,000 Miles Fresh Coils, Wires, And Plugs Fresh Oil Change Original Motor Problem - Short Story When I first start the car, usually after I have driven it for a short time, sometimes the car will smoke out of the exhaust pipe. The smoke appears white to me, and i can feel the car hesitate. Like its missing or something, it stutters I guess. It usually cleans itself out after 30 seconds or so and I never notice it again. Oil has been recently changed and might have a little extra oil in it? Would this matter. Problem - The Detailed Story Occassionally my car smokes and has a slight hesistation. This has happended 4 times now. Once in decemeber when I first got my car. And three times in the last 2 weeks. It usually happens after I drive my car, and shut it off. And then get back in it and go somewhere usually within the first mile it will do this. It smokes white from the exhaust pretty bad and once i swear there was even white smoke coming through the vents on my dash. When it is smoking the car studders and is lacking power. It hesistates and is very sluggish for a couple seconds and then it magically cleans itself out, quits smoking and runs fine like nothing ever happended. I recently changed my oil, and it has a little extra in it, it's over the full line. I havn't removed the extra oil yet and I don't plan to. I don't think its hurting anything? The car has recently had plus coils and wires so it's none of those. Forgot to mention, I can smell the smoke whenever it is happening. I can't really describe it though. Thanks, Logan. UPDATE This morning I started the car up. No smoke at all. So I'm sitting there like I usually do for a few minutes to let it warm up. And I decide to turn the heater on because I'm Cold :P BAM - White smoke out the exhaust within 2 seconds. Went outside to smell the smoke like you guys said I should. I don't recommend sticking your nose up to the exhaust tips. They will make you light headed. But anyway, I couldn't smell anything sweet. I kind of have a cold though so my sniffer might not be working real well. So does this mean its some sort of coolant leak? |

Internal coolant leak? Is the coolant reservoir level dropping?

UPDATE -
This morning I started the car up. No smoke at all. So I'm sitting there like I usually do for a few minutes to let it warm up. And I decide to turn the heater on because I'm Cold :P BAM - White smoke out the exhaust within 2 seconds. Went outside to smell the smoke like you guys said I should. "I havn't removed the extra oil yet and I don't plan to"
Well right there is something that's obviously not correct so go fix it already! |
Yeah, overfilling the oil can cause it to shoot into the intake. Startup oil pressure is really high so makes sense that if it was overfilled it would leak and smoke on startup.
