Serious Misfiring

So today on my way to work as I was taking the off ramp my 8 started to misfire real bad but would start driving normal after a few seconds. Well on my way home it was driving fine until about half way it started to miss fire and loose power. Also once I got it home the cat. convertor was glowing red and smoke coming from the engine. I know that the mis firing may have caused the cat problem but I'm at a loss here since the engine is only five months old along with the plugs, wires, and coils. I also run 5w30 and premix so I know that he car is properly oiled. Anyone had similar problems or have any ideas?

I agree with dannobe. The cat is toast and your coils are done. Your cat should be covered under federal emission warranty. So i would bring your car to the dealer and get it replaced for free. The coils on the other hand buy them online and install yourself. Very easy to do and will save you a bunch of money. Also just to be safe i would change your spark plugs too.

Yea plan on getting a new cat and I think they should be replacing the coils, wires, and plugs since when I got the new engine I paid them to put in new coils, plugs, and wires. The engine has less than 2500 miles on it and the car has around 79000
