Seat track position sensor problem
 

I'm new to the forum and did try to do my research first so please excuse me if I missed something. I've got an 05' RX-8 with an SRS code of C1981. I brought it to the dealer and after two visits, calls to tech line, and 4 hours they determined that the seat track position sensor is faulty. The solution is a new seat track (because the sensor is integrated into the track and cannot be replaced separately). Problem is the seat track is nearly $4000. I can't afford such a fix so I just want to bypass the sensor and put a resistor inline to tell the SAS unit that the seat is in the far back position. I've been looking online and cannot find the specs for the sensor. Could someone please measure the resistance of their sensor in the front and back positions so I can find out what Ohm resistor to purchase? Any other suggestions on how to alleviate the problem?

mine intermittently throws this code, there is some connection with the seat bottom being all the way down, so i think there is a wire that's pinched, its F-ing annoying.

actually the more annoying part is that i used the FSM to figure this out, but i don't see it in there now! WTF!

Suggested first step, if you have not done it, is to disconnect and reconnect each of the connectors under the seat. I do not know if this is related to the random air bag light on the dash, but it works for me. I keep having an issue with my passenger side seat.

Good luck. Also, I suggest a junk yard for a seat with the track before the $4K option.

There are two SAS wire under the seat.
One is for airbag one is for the sensor.
U can trick the SAS with resistor on the airbag wire telling there's a airbag.
But I don't know if you can simple use resistor on the sensor wire, cu'z it's reading much more info than having the sensor or not.

That's why when ppl swap out for bucket seat, they still keep the sensor...

From what I can tell the seat track position sensor tells the SAS unit is either in the forward or backward position. I found that a Kia sensor in the rear position has a resistance of 900 ohms. Can anybody measure the resistance of the Seat Track Position Sensor in the far rear position?

the Mazda position sensor wires are on the big white connector, its not on the small yellow connector.

i was thinking of a Kia/hyundai sensor, we used to replace those all the time, since its a hyundai it threw a code for something totally random, and that was the fix.

anybody able to measure the resistance of the senor for me in the rear position?

that sensor unbolts with two bolts from the track; it is replaceable.

the seat track position sensor is covered under Mazda 8 year safety warranty. Had mine replaced for a tune of over 3K

it comes with the whole seat bottom assembly, which is $$$.

i found on mine the seat was able to cut the wires, so the fix was to repair the wires, and route them so the seat couldn't slice them
