Seafoam now stalling at every stop?
 

My car within this year started to have rough idles at stop lights I have a 04 AT with 86,000 miles. It would stall here and there but not much until last week. Now every time I would drive somewhere it would at least stall once or twice. So I go and buy seafoam hoping it will fix some of the problems but now it is worst stalling every time I come to a stop. I got no smoke after I added seafoam which made me concerned. I followed the directions on how to add the carbon cleaner 1/3 to the gas tank, 1/3 to the oil crankcase and 1/3 in the brake booster(maybe should have used the nipples on the lower intake manifold) and the car is not wanting to stay running unless I give it gas. :cussing: I am frustrated about the whole thing and even if we still have the 100,000 mile engine warranty it does not help that I have basic bolt on mods that might void the warranty. For example headers, high flow cat, catback exhaust, light weight pulleys, cold air intake, JET chip and Nology wires. Does anyone think Mazda will void my engine warranty with these upgrades? Classic problems that with my car that screams new engine but not confident that Mazda will give me one. Oh my engine light came on before the seafoam as I was driving to the Mazda dealership which made me turn away until I could get codes. Wish I just drove in and had them look at it. Is anyone in the same boat as me? Hope someone out there can solve my problems........

when was the last time you changed the coils plugs and wires?

I changed the coils last November and the plugs months ago and the Nology wires I have had for a couple years and seem fine.

get the codes read could possibly be either a dirty or a bad MAF sensor

Wanted to get the codes but did the seafoam first; I used MAF cleaner a couple weeks ago.....

thats about all i can think of with those symptoms take it to a local autoparts store and get the codes read idk what to tell you but judging that its an 04 AT i fear the worst

I need a new engine guess I am going to try my best to plead my case with Mazda. If I don't get a engine keep an eye out for my total part out of my RX8:puke:

yeah...you should have just used it through the nipples...only thing I can think of at the moment is to let the engine idle, give it a bit of gas if you need to. Then let it run low on gas then refill the tank.

If I don't give my car gas when at a stop it will stall so I will just have to throw it in neutral and quickly give it gas while I slowly stop at the same time! Hopefully over time all of it will pass and it go back to the way it was stalling one or two times on each trip:icon_no2:

change out that nology wire and you should be fine...

nology wires are bad.

Check the intake for any leaks, like the nipple under the TB.

Get some Racing Beat wires.

I'm not sure what's funnier; the fact that I never had any problem at all with the OE ignition system, or that everybody here thinks swapping it out is the immediate solution to every known RX-8 problem :lol2:

as for the warranty the dealer will have to proove thats what caused the problem otherwise they still have to switch your engine for you ... call mna if they dont but make sure you read your codes BEFORE you go to the dealer and keep proof of the code read so if they give you some bs as to how your intake caused the fail you can pull the receipt and show em you already knew what the problem was and you know the intake couldnt have caused it showing them they cant walk over you and they will shit in their pants at this point and become the best dealer in the world and take care of you oh if you wanna make it more dramatic tell em your calling mna ... oh at least remove the chips and stuff before you take her in ph yeah and those are some really crappy wires id change them asap

Went to Autozone and had the code P0171 only; never had this code before but the probable causes are similar to ones I have had before. I have my car at the Mazda dealership now hopefully the repairs won't be too steep or they tell me we are giving you a new engine! Yeah right.......crossing my fingers

A code P0171 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

•The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
•There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

Possible solutions include:

•In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with
a MAF cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
•Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary

im gonna say you have a bad motor. its a typical result in seafoaming.

your motor is low compression but still running because there is so much carbon, it fills in the cracks or wear of the housings, but when you seafoam you take all that away and leave a clean, uneven surface.

Dump some ATF in the intake nipple or the bottom spark plug hole and you should see it idle better. If thats the case, keep looking for a motor anyway, that one is on its way out

Also you need to get rid of your Nology Hotwires. I found out first hand on a dyno that the Nology Hotwires are no good and a big waste of money. After changing my nology spark plug wires to a set of Moroso Spark Plug Wires, i made 10 rwhp without any other tuning.
