Rx8 warms up , power loss, dies at idle. Help??

when i drive my 8 it runs perfect but after a bit it eventually starts getting loss of power and where if i drop into a lower gear and get to like 6000 rpm the intake will make a wierd rough noise , but ya it loses its power and the rpm doesnt climb as quick than at idle it will die. 10 mins later i can start it and drive it , but if i let it sit for an hour or 2 it runs perfect again? what is going on!

Check the compression, ignition, catalytic converter and fuel pump.
You will probably need a new engine and some of those components.

Moving to Troubleshooting.

Sounds like your cat is clogged. Next time you feel the hard power loss, stop the car safely and get out, look under the car toward the exhaust. You can see the bulge of the cat with the O2 sensor sticking out of the side. If it's glowing at all (usually starts around the O2 sensor and spreads outward) then you can confirm a failed cat. If it isn't glowing, it still might be a failed cat. If you have a failed cat and are having trouble reaching highway speed, then you are already entering the danger territory for engine damage from it and/or a car fire starting, and driving is REALLY not recommended at all.

Cat failures are typically caused by failed ignition, plugs, wires, and/or coils. Could be just 1 of the 12 pieces, or more than 1. The unburnt fuel and air from the weakening ignition dumps out into the exhaust and ignites there, blowtorching your cat in short order. Ignition failure is also a source of power loss, so it is cascading power loss as well as cascading failures when you add in the cat failure. Still ignored and it will kill your O2 sensors and then start damaging your engine.

just got back from driving it and the cel came on drove to a shop and he read the codes for free. got p 2096.. something to do with the cat. which makes sense cause the noise in the intake at high rpm i thought seemed like it wasnt breathing right so its not getting enough going through the cat and out the exhaust..

gunna look up more about p 2096 but any help would be appreciated
