RX8 Bottoming out over bumps

I had a full car of people the other night and my car was hitting the bump stop going over bumps. does this mean that the shocks are bad? or are my springs bad as well? i dont think springs can really go bad as much as the shocks do. I looked under the car and it says Tokico on the shocks, i did not know the car came stock with these shocks? should a set of stock shocks fix the problem? it does look like the rear end sags more than the front ever so slightly.

what year/trim is your car?
FYI, the downward force is the spring, and the upward "rebound" is the shock. Not limiting the possible issues, but that's just food for thought ;)

The stock shocks are Tokico's. With any car when you load it up with people the springs will compress more due to a larger load, it doesn't necessarily mean your shocks or springs are "bad." Depending on your mileage and year I'm sure there's some wear on them though. My 8 had the same thing with the rear being lower than the front before I switched to coilovers.

The oem shocks are made by Tokico on all but the special models. These are not to be confused with the Tokico shocks available on the aftermarket, which are superior.
As RX8Soldier said, springs lift the car. Shocks dampen the motion of the springs. If you have ever seen a car bouncing while driving down the road, it needs new shocks. Bottoming out is either too much weight or collapsed springs.

So bottoming out has to do with the springs...I think its just hitting the bump stops I think I have weak shocks but I had 2 people over 200 lbs in the back and I had me driving and another in the passenger seat..so it was a lot of weight..but I think I am just gona buy some afermarket tokicos and be done with it, and I have an 04 with 80,000 miles. It has the factory tokicos still on it
