Rx 8 power steering problem?

So my power steering malfunction light came on but it only comes on if i take a sharp turn then it stays on but if i shut the car off and start it again the light go's away until i take another sharp turn. What do you think could be causing this to happen?

Have you cleaned or replaced the electrical connections for the power steering harness?

Have you disconnected both battery cables and thoroughly cleaned the posts AND the clamps?

I bet the problem is one of the two.

I cleaned the whole steering harness and a little bit of the battery cables.

Ok I cleaned the battery cables and the posts and it still happens and when the light is off it doesn't seem like it has power steering its a little hard to move the wheel, not moving.

Did you clean the harness? or the connectors? I don't mean the exterior, I mean using an electrical cleaner to clean the contact points on both ends of the harness connector.

Your symptoms entirely suggest either a too-great power draw needed, or a signal problem. Both are connection related somewhere between the ECU and rack, or battery and rack.

I cleaned all the connectors on the harness and made sure it had a ground. I used electrical cleaner and some electrical contact stuff to clean it.

I have a suspicion that you still have something not correctly cleaned, but assuming you do...

and i tested all the wires on my harness and they all work.

thebubbadog 05-11-2015 08:25 PM

are there any sensors that could cause that to happen?

I fixed it. It was a connection issue.
