My car is in for service today -- 26 Aug... With my 9/03 build date both the ball joint and Heat repair recalls apply. My dealer doesn't have parts and can't / won't start the repairs until 30 August. Has anyone actually received their letter from MNAO?

Have a visit scheduled for 12 September now.

Has anybody checked their cars and found K4 (diamond) 1 batch of control arms? I checked mine and one is “CS” and the other “C6”. Being a 5/03 build I was thinking mine would be the “bad” ones.

F4
both of 'em
June '03 build.
(I could check mine without jacking-up from the front of the car with an inspection mirror & a flashlight.)
Whew!

Just had mine inspected at the dealer while it was in for the other recall. May '03 build, and no problems.

My dealer claims to not have the inspection information on this recall yet.. so I'll have to go back in a few weeks for this one.. :P At least they're doing the other recall and a bunch of warranty work, and from the sounds of it, really taking pride in their work and not settling for half-assed. (One of the items was the white film on the head lights.. one of the replacements had the same film so they refused to use it.)

The odds of having this problem are very very slim... Odds are most if not all, never made it to this side of the globe.

That sounds reassuring. I, like expo1, thought mine could easily be one of the "bad" ones. How can you justify what you stated?

Some of the original info stated that it was a very small # of units in very early production..and that they were pulled from the line when they found the problem.

Supposedly the problem is ......they think they may have missed a few and their line inventory control doesn't account for the individual parts...

I posted a number of docs earlier in the thread that explain what is going on, have a read of the whole thread and I think you'll feel better

What was the build date of YOUR 8, that is all that matters. Open the drivers side door and look on the door sill. Or just look at the control arms and see if yours are from the defective batch. It has been posted in this thread how to tell if your control arms will need to be replaced.

I got a recall e-mail the first week of August and I got the recall letter last week. I took my 8 in today, they inspected it and no problem. My car is a 5/03 build.

Hi to all, UK calling!

Just to let you know that my 8 was inspected today and given the ok. Mine was regestered here in the uk in January 04,so was an 03 build. The garage also fitted the fuel tank insulation and did a pcm? update.

Must say however, that I've not had any letters from Mazda and organised this my self. As far as I'm aware, no letters have been issued to owners in the uk as yet.

Cheers,

Ian.

Does anyone have a picture of what the control arm/ ball joint? I know I took my car in for the recall on this but they didnt replace it. When I was under my car today I noticed this thing that to me would be this part. Its definately an arm with a ball joint.... Just dont know if Im looking at something different. I was under the car at the front driver side tire. It was toward the front of the engine on the right side coming down toward the radiator...

First of all, the recall only applied to some early '04 cars, so if your car is a newer model year, you need read no further. In case you do have an '04 car, I have attached the two main pages from the 3405G recall notice. Check the VIN range to see if your car is affected by the recall.

all they had to do is check the code stamped on the part. if it wasnt the "bad" one then there was nothing else to do.

Well then, take the information from the recall notice I posted and check out your A-arm yourself. I did and found that my A-arm did not have the markings indicated in the notice.

Hi All
Sorry for bringing up an old thread.
Last weekend we had one of our clubs RX8’s loose a ball joint going threw turn 1 at Pukehoe park Race way in nz. The result was a big mess.
The Lower control arm that had the ball joint failure was PB ◊1.
This is different to the recalled batch K4◊1
Does any one know of a list of failed control arm batch numbers?
We would like to check all the club cars arms vs known bad batches.

Exclamation Question

If I have lowering springs on my 8 will they still fix the ball joint recall?
