Royal Purple BADDD???!!! PLEASE HELP!!!
 

THE mazda delarship said that i should never run SYNTHETIC OIL LET ALONE ROYAL PURPLE IN MY Rx8...but i ALREADY HAVE SINCE NOVEMBER!!! WHAT SHOULD I DO??? I know i cant change back to regular oil but what effects would 5w-20 royal puple would have on my 8??? I seached the fourms and couldnt find a direct answer please help! What Should I Do?

nothing wrong with royal purple synthetic motor oil, you can continue to use it without worry. Many people here run that.


not sure what you searched but here's the short answer.
- you're fine with it
- you CAN switch back
- as to what "effects" it has: it does its job as an engine oil at least (if not better) then conventional oil.

I've run Royal Purple in my car since the first oil change. I have 40K miles. Never had a problem. I may switch to Castrol Synth since RP is becoming cost prohibitive for me.

thats all interesting, i didnt have much time to do all the searching required to find which thread talked about royal purp in itself and what itll do to my 8, i had milky looking stuff in my oil so i thought it was caused by the synthetic oil but after further research its water that somehow got in my oil, so i will do another oil change, and yes i will accept your harsh criticism bkuz i am a newb, i jus signed up for this forum and i am new to forums and rotary engines and for the most part owning a car, this is my second car after owning a ricer eclipse so im just tring to learn as much as i can from u guys, im sorry for the time u wasted on reading and replying to my post, and those of you who has replied helpfully thanks

Don't change the oil every time you see the milky stuff. It's water from condensation. =normal.

The real answer is that it mostly depends on your use of the car :)

Apparently you don't know how to search. Correct me if I am wrong, but searching 5w20 will most likely pull up more threads saying not to use 5w20 then threads saying to do so. Now the manual says 5w20. 5w20 is recommended only in the U.S. Coincidence? I think not.

obviously if u search enuf youll find that its undecided what wight to use therefore it falls into the preference category, i choose to go with the car Manuel and all those who said use 5w-30 in this instance

5w20/30 is what the dealer will tell you you need to use. After many blown rotary engines, tear downs and rebuilds, some of the very knowledgeable members on this board will never use a 5w20 or 5w30 oil and swear by heavier oils like 0w40, 10w40, 10w50 and even 20w50(NYC's fav) followed with premixing or the sohn adapter.

Bottom line, it is your car, do what you want. Seeing that everyone who follows the manual's "recommendations" gets rewarded with blown engines, I will be using a heavier oil.
