Rough Idle, No power on acceleration and stall

Hello guys, hope you can diagnose my problem.

2005 Shinka RX8, 52K miles on it. Regular maintenance done, etc...

Yesterday was driving and was at a stop light, car idled rough. Kept driving, slowed down, stopped to make a turn, idled rough again, tried to accelerate, no power at all, just stalled. Got it started up again, same issue, no power, stalled again. Put hazard lights on, waited about 15 seconds, started up and I was able to limp into the parking lot. I let it sit for about 5 minutes, turned it on, started up and everything seemed ok. I was able to drive away, but the idle still felt on the rough side. Drove it today, and it felt good again, no issues. No CEL came on at all during this.

Now, I hope some of you guys can ease my fears. My gut is telling me the engine is done for, or at least on its way out. I passed the 8 year warranty, so if my engine is cooked I am SOL. I am HOPING it is something else.

This spring it got a new battery, now spark plugs and new coils. So I can't see an issue there.

Getting Mazda on Wednsday and going to have them do a compression test. Hope its ok. :Eyecrazy:

Could it possibly be a dirty MAF sensor? Guy at mazda told me it could be a clogged air filter too. The engine still feels good, gets good acceleration etc. Today it felt really peppy.

Anyways, hope someone can alleviate my fears.

One more thing.. I have no problem starting it up, even while hot. Takes no more than two seconds. So no hot start problem. Its one thing that I hope is indicitive that its not my engine.

Wonder if your cat is clogged ? If it is it will glow red once it gets hot. But more than likely you have a bad dirty or stuck SSV. Just my theory.
