Roof top leak --- Totaled ?

I have been having this strange water leak, from the location it seems that it's coming from the windshield. but I was wrong.

so I decided it's time to "check it and find out the exact spot"

turns out the water came down from THIS location.

Issue has been resolved with flowable silicone that's designed to fix windshield leaks. Just clean the area, put a gob of it at the effected area.

problem has been fixed with a gob load of silicone that was made for fixing windshield leaks. those flowable type. 7 bux at ur local parts store.

I put a whole crap at that area. no leak since.

How did you remove the rails safely so you can put them back on after with no damage?

nycgps 03-26-2013 05:54 AM

errr, it takes 10 seconds to remove the rail (cover piece)

it's basically snap on.

batangisip89 03-17-2014 11:03 AM

This did the trick, that flowable silicon works wonders. Thanks!

Same fix here on my 05 RX8.

longpath 05-02-2015 05:20 PM

Is there anything to be aware of when removing the covers, in order to prevent damage to them?

Did you even read the thread? Just remove the stripping, add some silicone, replace stripping.
Otherwise, you have another issue and you haven't provided any details.

If you look close you can see water coming from that coner from the top roof i dont think its from the windshield that's the driver side i took off the headliner

Loki 01-08-2016 12:05 PM

What answer do you expect? It could be the same problem as this thread, or it could be something completely different. Nobody can confirm that except you because only you are near the car.

Take a garden hose, like the gentleman who started this thread, put water on small sections of roof at a time, see where it leaks and where it doesn't. Or apply silicone to the circled area and see if you still get water in the cabin after the silicone has dried.

Hi,
I literally recently, 2 days ago, noticed the tops of my A Pillars were wet....not to dig up an old thread, but I finally found this thread after all night of trying to figure out what it was after I snaked and cleaned the sunroof drains, and it clearly wasnt the issue. I sprayed water, couldnt find the leak from the windshield or the sunroof seals or drains.
Well, I took off my rain gutters and found that white gunk/red combo. It sounds crazy, but looks like they had this problem before I bought the car (5 years ago now!!!) and bondo it, painted it, and sent the car on its way.
Im gonna silicone over the bondo and see if that fixes it....but does anyone else think that it could be leaking from that bondo spot?

nycgps 06-25-2016 11:30 AM

I rarely drive my 8 (I don't live in NYC anymore), and my 8 is in my temp controlled garage, so I'm not sure if the silicone is still sealing well

I stopped mine fast so my paint and everything was ok. but in ur case, you should really strip it clean (meaning remove the paint), have someone weld it, clean weld, primer, paint.

Cuz that's the only real way to fix it permanently

I will do it to mine too, just not anytime soon.

Fullmetal38 06-25-2016 04:28 PM

Well, I put flowable silicone over it and just dabbed the thing with alot of silicone and let it cure...idk if it fixed my problem, it hasnt rained yet hahaha.
Yeah, getting it scrapped, welded, and painted and blah blah is what I should do...but honestly, the cost of that for something that nobody can see, would just be wayyyy more then it should be worth, and I dont know how much longer im gonna keep my 8...shes starting to show signs of coming close to that "dump money in her, or get rid of it" point of our relationship, despite my maintenance upkeep, and Idk where I will be in 2 years....or even a year.

How to remove rails passenger and driver roof rails?

Do the rails pry upward or towards sunroof or away?
