Rev limiter on 04 MT RX-8?

My problem starts out like this. My car when i "try" to take it up to 9k the engine drops out around 7500RPM. Sensing this was not right at all, I took the car to the Mazda dealership here in Blacksburg,Va as I am student here in Hokietown. So, after recieving the car back from Duncan Mazda the tech said the car has a rev limiter on the vehicle:rant: . Is there any truth in this. I immediate got rozenthal Mazda on the phone in Arlington and Richard told me that there was no such thing on the car. Duncan has a 04 in MT that i want the tech to drive as a comparison vehicle to show that my car clearly has something wrong with it. Oh and get this the Mazda dealership in Roanoke said they cannot even test the car because the problem is @ that high of an RPM? These southern VA dealerships are a joke. Anyone experience similar problems? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. The car has 38000 miles all services done, and oil every 3000 miles.

Take the Mazda tech for a ride and try to hit 9,000 in 1st & 2nd which would not be speeding if on a hwy. The redline on a 6-speed is 9,000 RPM.

Walk into the showroom with a quart of black paint and a small paintbrush. Make sure there are a number of customers there; preferably some interested in the RX-8. Announce loudly to the salesman that you are there to fix the tachometers in all of their new RX-8's as well as revise the sales brochures, since the service department has made it clear the "rev-limiter" really only allows the car to go to 7500 rpm.

Or, you could just take all the RX-8 brochures from the rack and start crossing out with a magic marker where it mentions 9000 rpm, and write in "7500". I think you will probably get a response by the time you are finished with the 2nd brochure.

Yea thats exactly what it feels like. I dunno its going back to dealer this week probably tomorrow or thursday. I will let you all know what Duncan says. I already contacted Mazda and they said if the dealer says the same thing again to have the dealer call the tech hotline and sort it out. Im really to optimistic though, I mean the dealership has one RX-8 on the lot from 4mo ago and its a AT not to mention everything else on the lot is either a Mazda 3,6 or a Ford of some unfortunate sort.

AAHHHHHH hah!

Well to much avail from my local dealership and 3 weeks of in and out of the service department, I HAVE A NEW ENGINE ON ORDER! So it looks like I too will become part of the new engine club. Shame.... car ran great up untill 3 months ago, then it would hesitate at 7500 and now new engine online 39000. Anyone have any issue with the replacements or anything i should know or do differently?

Hope you like your new engine.

The mazdadealerships around here are a joke. Roanokes burglund mazda is the worst place to deal with ever. I'd take my car elsewhere for any future service.
