Replacing 2nd Gear Sincro.

Hello guys, I've been an avid reader of this forum since I bought my 8 over a year ago, but this is the first time I actually write something. You'll see my 8 is having some issue with second gear (grinding), I know this is a popular debate on here i have read a lot about it, now before you start flaming on me , let me tell you i searched and didn't find anything. What I want to know is if anyone of you knows which parts I need to buy in order to fix the sincro. problem, besides the sincro itself obviously, here is were i plan to buy it: http://www.jimellismazdaparts.com/sh...roduct=1918418

My family owns a workshop and I'm a learning mechanic so I don't have to worry about labor costs or anything just want to know which of the following i have to buy in order to fix this.
I was told i needed a SLEEVE,CLUTCH HUB but I'm not sure.
Could someone help me? Thank you

P.D. I do not live in the US so its very important that the parts i order are the corrects one, as I would not be able no return them.

From what I know you need special tools not usually stocked by shops to rebuild this transmission and it is very difficult to do.

Seriously!?, how is this transmission different from a piston engine one?

It's not, this same transmission is actually used in the S2000 but the rebuild process requires special tools. With new technology and hardware comes new tools. Most local transmission shops cannot and won't rebuild this Aisen transmission for some reason and I bet it's due to that fact. In addition, for the typical owner buying a used transmission is cheaper and more convenient because if somehow you can find someone to rebuild it, it will cost a lot.

Hello Forum,

Last year I decided to change the 2nd gear syncro, as it was getting worse, it was grinding when I shift over 5000rpm.

The RX8 its not my daily drive anymore, only use it on sundays and some nights, I've had it since 2010 when i bought it with 18,000 miles on ii, it now has 50,000 miles.

Ive attached some pictures of the rebuild.

The items I ordered:

Qty Product # Price EA
1 GEAR, 2ND Y61117251 $186.68
1 SLEEVE, CLUTCH HUB Y61117262 $116.83
1 RING, SYNCHRONIZER (3 PC ). Y6011726Y $120.73

Total: $424.24 + 2 bottles of redline MT-90 @ 16.00 + shipping to my country @ $40 = $496.24

Obviously there was no labor cost. So final investment was $496.24.

Tranny feels great now, like it was brand new.

Just wanted to share the experience. Tell me what you guys think.

Good job. Your English skills are very polished too. Have you lived in America before?

late reply to 9K LOL

most local shops won't do it because of cost, not the tools. especially when u can get a brand new one for around 2K, how much can the shop charges u for labor ?

when my 6MT goes I probably rebuild it myself (I have tools), but that's because like Felipe, I can do it and saves myself labor cost. but for most, it's simply not worth it.

A full aftermarket synchro/bearing rebuild kit for the FD3 5-spd is like $575, on an SE3P S1 6-spd it's about $1400

it still cost him $500 just to do 2nd gear on one shaft and he re-used everything else bearings and all, including providing his own labor and shop for free

I'm curious what causes the wearing out of the syncronizer ring specifically for 2nd gear? I've noticed this inability to shift to 2nd above about 30-35 mph myself and I'm not too happy about a $500 price tag to do it myself...

Because it's made by glass

seriously, this tranny is not designed for 9K shift in mind.
