Repeated Check Engine Lights

Hi Guys,

Been having alot of trouble with my Rx8 since i purchased it late Jan this year, and just looking for some advice.

About a week after i got it on a long motorway drive the CEL (check engine light) came on. I took it back to the dealer and they said it was a O2 Sensor fault, but said it could of been caused by having it "stood" for somtime they reset it and it seamed ok...

About another week later again during a long motorway drive the car started to backfire badly and i was unable to rev the engine past 6/7k when it was in 3rd or 4th gear or above, and the CEL came on again. This time the dealer replaced the Catalytic converter.

Again the car was fine for a few more weeks until another CEL again during a long motorway drive no other issues though and the car drove fine this time the dealer said it was "Pre Cat Lambda Sensor" and gave me the error code "
P04020" they replaced the faulty sensor and car seamed fine even idled alot smoother.

But just had another CEL yet again on a motorway drive.

Anyone had anything simlar or any advice on what could be causing these repeated CEL errors?

Could be bad coils causing misfires. Could be low or inconsistent compression. How old are the coils? Do you know someone who can read the codes for you. In the states some autoparts stores will do this for you.

think the coils are as old as the car 44k miles, not sure its low compression it's never stalled or anything

change the coils. probably the plugs as well and since you're there do the plug wires as well.

got it back to the dealer, there gonna take it to a mazda specialist.

so hopfully they'll actualy change the coils, plugs etc.. this time.

Hope that they'll cover them under warranty... they are pretty damn expensive in europe :(

apparently its the coolant temprature sensor that is faulty making the fuel mixture too rich or lean and causing it these CEL's

This CEL is the Lambda Sensor again?

Does this make sense to anyone?

What you said actually makes no sense! If it's the coolant temperature sensor (which i doubt) why should they replace the lambda sensor?
Have you tried changing the coils and the plugs. Did you get your compression checked? How's the catalyzer?
always the same questions...
A blinking CEL usually is a misfire

so your dealership isnt a mazda dealership meaning they know little to nothing about mazdas let only the renny...... i would get you car to a mazda dealer or a shop that knows what they are doing..... that way your not changeing parts you dont need to.... but if i had to guess i would say coils and plugs

Sorry for not being clear :)

Its not a blinking CEL its just a constantly light CEL. every time i have had it, its just that never had it blinking.

They checked the fault code this time and they read it as a fault lambda sensor.

They said the cause of all these CEL's i've been having (this is the 4th) is because its got a faulty Engine Coolant Temprature Sensor (ECT Sensor).

This ECT sensor is now showing up as being fault though.

I'ved ask asked them to check the coils they said they are fine but i think they just did a visual check to see if theres a white burn mark on the bottom of them.

The Cat is Brand New as of last month after it went on 2nd CEL i had it seamed alot better after the Cat was replaced but i've had 2 more CEL's since.

your coils are probly bad along with your plugs...... your not burning off all the fuel from combustion and the pcm is thinking that the sensor is bad because it is reading a rich condition......???????..........
