Rear window seal
 

Anyone else experience a rear window seal that seems to be letting go on the '06? It looks like it's peeling up from the outside. I had it in to the dealership and they checked it out and said there were no leaks to the inside. I asked them to replace it but they said 'No' because it wasn't actually leaking.

There was an '08 on the lot waiting to be picked up and I looked closely at the seal on it and it was quite different from mine. I asked the service tech why it was so different (and didn't appear to be peeling up) and was told that they changed to a different seal in later models. Could that be because the seals they were using on the '06 required changing?

I have an 04 and my seal is also pealing a bit near the rear window. I do not get any leakage either... i am sure there is a glue type substance used to stick it back??

My greatest fear is that (living in Canada and driving it year-round) salt will get under the seal and start to rust!

Could you please take a picture of where the seal is coming up?

Are you talking about the back-glass (with the defroster)? Or, are you talking about the rear 1/4 windows (on the back doors)?

In either case, leakage ought not to be the sole criterion for the dealer denying warranty for a defective moulding.

No, it's not the rear "passenger" side windows, it's the big rear winshield.

I'm actually out in your neck of the woods (near Cranbrook) for the next two weeks. I'll post a picture when I get back home.

The back glass is actually 'bonded' in place with a bitumen strip and caulking, so it shouldn't leak. Rubber trim should be able to be re-attached with a good spray trim adhesive (when it's warm enough). I can't picture the trim you're talking about in my mind, though - and my car is 'hidden' in the warm during our current cold/snowy spell.
