REALLY bad problem with my 8!! (please, read)
yesterday when i started my car it was really bad, the car was like super slow, when i accelerated (full) the car it revs up very very slowly, like 1000 rpms every 5 seconds, then my check engine light start blinking, when i was driving the car one friend was behind me and he told me that the car was throwing FIRE from the mufflers!! :Eyecrazy:, i was like whaat?, then i stopped in a gas station and all my catback (oem) was like red or orange color, and when i rev the car, the car was throwing fire, then i go back to my home. the next day i starts the car and it was the same thing, but in the catback i heard like a lot of metal pieces playing inside, i think that my cat its broken :Eyecrazy:, why this happend?, i think that it can be the coils, spark plugs, and sparkplugs wires? or what?, please help me
(sorry about the text, but english is not my first language) |

r
K mate I had a smiliar problem just not as bad.
Sounds like your coils have failed. I had the check engine light come on my car and it sounded really rough up until 4-5k revs.. then it sounds ok. It struggled to accelerate. I took it to Mazda and they stated 2 of my 4 coils had failed. Apparantly if you leave this problem or there proper fooked, then it can wreck the cat. I smelt a horrioble burnt smell out me exhaust and it came from my coils causing the missfire and then through the cat the burnt smell followed. I think your coils may have to be changed.. but usually they check ya plugs and wires at the same time neways to make sure.. my advice take it to a dealer.. didnt cost me that much to have it placed on machine and have 2 coils replaced. Now she runs sweet |

by the way, in the worst case (hope not), if my engine its f^%^&ed up, for how much can i get a rx8 engine?, with no trans because mine is good at least =D!!

Dude you engine is fine. Rotarys run hot kill cats. Your cat is gone dude. You keep driving your 8 like that and it will burn down. Let the dealer fix it. Might need a new flash too. They will take care of it under warrenty.
This issue has been known sence 2003 and 2004 back when I had my WB AT I too had my cat replaced. I searched on here found out people down in FL where catching there front lawn on fire due to dead or cloged cats. -Gil |
alright, hope my engine its fine, i will trust in you =P lol!!.....im just waiting for my coils, spark plugs, and spark plugs wires from e-bay!!, once i replace this i will also delete the cat (for now, because of money), then i will buy another CAT, also im going to take my car to the dealer to do the new flash, but i will have to pay for it, because my car have no warranty because i bought my car in a auto auction and its a salvage car. (it cost me $8500)

^Good call man. Let us know how it turns out. Changing the coils spark plugs and wires are not hard. I changed them in under a hour. Just dont drop the 10mm bolts that hold the coils down and start the spark plugs by hand. Our cores are made of soft stuff and eazy to strip.
If you have any questions pm me man. Replace the cat and see how she runs first. Then check out your plugs and coils last. How many miles are on your 8? You might not need to replace them just yet! And pay for the flash after you get a race pipe. Dont want to spend any money you dont have to. Take it one step at a time. -Gil |

If you've done all the above, only thing you can do at your home and very simple is the following. Seafoam you engine, or buy a Red Level cleaning Kit, or even the Mazda Cleaning Kit, you may have carbon built up and need to cough it out with high reps while you clean. |
