Reading the dipstick?
Hey all..
I've always had issues with reading my oil level... The thin oil is so damn clean I can't see the mark it's at... Even in a ton of light and using a cloth to try and gauge where it's at! Is there something I can do to make it more visible? I check my damn oil every two fill-ups, but I just CAN'T see where it is!! It's a damn guessing game. |
sand down the dipstick, the color change will make it easier to read?
drill small holes? |
Scrup the stick with some ruff cloth. Get the stick to have some sort of matte surface. Now, when you dip the stick, the shiny part of the stick is where the oil level is!

I sanded the reading zone of mine to get rid of the brown coating. You have to finish by sanding across rather than up and down. Cross-sanding helps the oil "grab". Now that the stick is silver instead of brown, it's a lot easier to see the oil level. Make sure to clean it thoroughly after sanding before you put it back in the engine.
