Rattling/Popping Sound from Tranny
So it was raining heavily yesterday (couldn't see 2 car lengths ahead), anyway everything was fine until I stopped at a traffic light. While waiting for green, I pop into neutral and I was getting rattling / popping sound (sort of like sound of front shaft when a cv-joint starts failing) right under the cup holder/tranny. Engine behaved normal and no idle problems but at that time I decided to give it a bit of gas, raising the idle from 800 to 1k rpm for about 5 seconds. The noise was gone and everything was fine and dandy after that.
Any ideas what the noise is about? |
Sometimes people worry about the gear rollover sound thinking its abnormal.
Its a common sound when the car is in neutral/idle. How long has it been since you replaced the tranny fluid? |
Its not the gear rollover sound, its a pretty hard knocking/popping sound (like someone takes a hammer and tap it from underneath the car). I'm just curious what could have cause the noise because the car doesn't behave in any way abnormal.

Then it could be the release bearing is tapping against the pressure plate fingers.
