Varies between vendors of the mid-pipes and high flow cats.
Some mid-pipes are horribly loud while others are quieter... same goes for high-flow cats.
Then it also depends on the combination of the mid-pipe/high flow with the cat-back.
Gas smell will be worse with a mid-pipe.
In the end, it comes down to personal preference.
Some like it louder than others.

:iwstupid: What he said.

yup, comes down to what you like and what you're willing to put up with.
I have the RP supercat with an RB exhaust. Great combination (IMHO) and I have yet to be harassed by police.

quazmosis 10-17-2008 11:29 AM

Also keep in mind midpipes are illegal. You probably new this already.

jae one 10-20-2008 05:53 PM

thanks i just needed feedback cuz i dont know witch one to get but does any have any links where i can purchase a super cat or a midpipe either way i want to shoot flames :)

Renesis07 10-20-2008 08:14 PM

Theyll all shoot flames. If you tried hard enough you could get flames from the stock setup; rx8's run very rich.

I would have to say that encounters with the law vary from cop to cop

quazmosis 10-21-2008 10:29 AM

^^ Agreed. From personal experience, I was being and idiot, and floored my car, I was doing 49 in a 25 and around the corner came a cop. I got a huge fine. I was running the Agency catless midpipe, and he said he could hear me comming from 5 blocks away. He was furious with me and even said he was going to take me straight to jail, but never did check to see if I had a cat or not. I got really lucky! Now take that same situation with a different cop, I might not even have my car now. Something to think about.

Musker 10-21-2008 10:41 AM

Way to go, slick

You did get lucky, though, man!

jae one 10-21-2008 06:57 PM

what if you dont have the back o2 sensor on the midpipe..

will that effect gas mileage?

Renesis07 10-21-2008 08:05 PM

with a midpipe and CAI, I still average 15-18 around town and 20-22 on the freeway. That has not changed due to any mods.

WHy wouldnt you have the sensor? Theres a hole for it in the pipe (hence why it throws a cel)

JGR4444 10-21-2008 08:07 PM

yes yes i know... long story short.. mazda stole my cat and my o2 sensor so i have a shop weld a piece of piping in there for a short term thing... sounds like crap and i think im burning through gas like crazy... idk.. im about to be at half with 100 miles.. is that about right?

Depending on your driving habits, yes. Ive seen as low as 160 on a full tank, and as high as 300.

JGR4444 10-21-2008 08:13 PM

dang ive been feathering it and thats where i am..

Renesis07 10-21-2008 08:15 PM

Are you driving predominantly city? Lots of stop signs, stoplights?

JGR4444 10-21-2008 08:16 PM

jae one 10-21-2008 09:58 PM

then 200-220 per tank is doing good.

arlingtonrx8 02-10-2009 07:45 PM

I was wondering what a few posters asked... Ever since I put on my Agency power dual resonated midpipe I seem to have lost 30% fuel economy.. from about 16 mpg to 11.. The only difference was the midpipe.. Could this somehow affect my AFR and make the computer think it needs to run extra rich for some reason?
