Problem with steering?
I own an '07 MT with about 190k. When I park my 8 at the end of the day, I usually back in to my parking spot. The last few days I'm getting a loud clicking/banging sound when I cut the wheel and begin to back into my spot. Checked everything underneath, nothing loose or broken. I'm thinking there might be an issue with the steering. It seems to turn fine when I am driving any other time, but when I shift to reverse and cut the wheel to park I get this loud noise. Does anyone have any thoughts? Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

does the noise appear only when turning? does it get louder at speed?

I had that when a front alignment bolt was loose. At low speed high angle turns it would clank.
I guess it goes without saying that if a bolt were so loose that it came off, you would find yourself having a bad day. |
With a 190k on your car it might be time for a front end inspection. Lots of wear on steering components with that kind of mileage.

The noise does not appear at higher speeds, just at very low speed. Its been a while since I did a full front end inspection. I will also check alignment bolts. Thanks for the tips guys

It seems to also happen when I am breaking, even when driving in a straight line. Is it suspension??..Nothing broken or leaking

It turns out I have 2 broken sway bar links, one front, one back, and 2 broken motor mounts which are likely the cause of the 'clunk' sound
