Problem: Oil leaking from block

Hey everyone my car has just started leaking oil from the engine where the front cover meets the first rotor chamber. I've talked to some of the rx-7 guys and they said that something to do with the oil was in the front cover and probaly cracked a seal. They said that the 7s were known to do this after a while and some people just overlook it if it's not a big drip. Well I'm not planning on overlooking it and it's going to the dealer in the morning. I dont know what could've happened to cause this, but the people I talked to said the turbo kit, or anything I've done to the car, could've caused it. I'm not sure maybe it's the weather change....it happened right after it wouldn't crank one day it got real cold outside. Any info would be great. :boink:

Definitely take it in to the dealer to have it corrected under warranty. Probably has nothing to do with your mods, BUT the dealer will probably attribute the problem to one or more of the mods. You may have to eventually raise the issue to the MNAO level. I wish you good luck! You'll need it.

MNAO level? not sure what that is. It's at the shop being inspected right now...everyone just pray that it's going to be covered under warrenty along with all the other problems, ;)

MNAO=Mazda North American Operations. You will find the 800 number in the warranty information that came with your car. Mazda states that if you are unable to resolve a warranty issue with the dealer, to contact them directly. Might want to look that up because I expect you will need it.

would the MNAO not void the intire warrenty due to the installed parts though?

damn dude that sucks, If I had to take a guess mazda is going to give you the finger. I hope not though.

yeah tell me about it....as soon as the engine smoothed out, started running good, and performing great the dang thing started falling apart on me. First the transmission, then the clutch started going bad, and now she's bleeding. I'm not sure why all of this is happening at the same time. If they dont fix it...I'm probaly going to either get rid of it or spend a few grand and port the engine while it's apart and go with a stand-alone, get it tuned and strenthin the tranny up a bit. The whole thing's just depressing though.

Not necessarily, but in the case of the leaking joint in the engine, they might reasonably conclude that the additional internal pressures induced by the turbo MAY have caused the seal failure. Based on the many posts on this forum regarding warranty claims and dealer interpretation of the warranty, it is almost a certainty that the dealer will make that judgment. That's why I have said that you may have to escalate the issue to MNAO. I hope for your sake I'm mistaken.

Thanks for the information. I too hope that they dont void the warrenty or give me any greif over this. They are currently in disagreement with us anyway on a warrenty issue with the transmission syncros and forks. So I'm not thinking it'll be easy to get them to do this without any problems. Once again everyone just wish me luck. I'm goin to need it.

Legally the onus is on MNAO to prove that your mods caused the problem. In reality most people will roll over before incurring exhorbitant court costs.

2 cool words in one post!!! :boink:

well it was a no questions asked service of the car so far. They said it'll be ready tomarrow, but I dont see how if they have to pull the engine apart to replace the seal. If they do this and it still leaks oil we're going to complain to the owner of the dealership b/c this will be the second, make that third time they have 'fixed' something on my car just to have it happen again and then they refuse it after that....now that I think about it they've done this 5 maybe 6 times...dang. Somebody is going to hear about this if it happens again and if they dont fix my tranny right this time.

Thanks for everyone's prayers and wishes, I was scared about this. Please just continue to pray that everything goes smoothly though and it runs as good if not better than b4 :D
