Problem with charging system.

I drive a 2004 MT. Just recently bought a new alternator, and had to swap my battery for a new one but my battery dash light continues to stay on. I had everything retested at Autozone and the battery, alternator, and starter tested perfect. Will this go away after a few cycles or is there maybe a relay fuse to check ?

I very recently replaced my alternator and battery as well, with a previously lit battery indicator, it remained lit for about 30 miles at most with the new alt+batt, then went away.
If you've put some miles on it I'd start checking grounds, fuses, relays etc...
What kind of voltage are you getting from the alternator?
I believe the the voltage regulator is tied in with our ECM... but i don't really know anything about that.

I'm sure others will be able to shed some more light on the issue for ya.
Keep troubleshooting though, get some voltage readings... Engine running, engine off, voltage drops during cranking, stability, battery drain...

Good luck

No clue about my voltage readings, I have no way to test them. Thanks for the reply !!

check for codes, charging system codes will store but not turn on the check engine light. can give more help with a code but you will need a realy cheap voltage meter/dvom to actually beable to know whats wrong.

I can send you a wiring diagram if you need....

not very useful without a volt meter. you can get a very cheap one almost anywhere.

Better yet, bite the bullet on a nice Fluke multimeter with all the probes and accessories.
It's my 2nd favorite tool in the cabinet. My favorite tool is my cheater bar (2" lead pipe about 3ft long)

Ok, I finally got around to having the CEL codes pulled. There are 2 the first one was for a small evap leak which I've had for a while now, and the 2nd is a p0661.

So you went from having a battery light on to a problem with the SSV? Is this the same light you were referring to in your original post?

Yes still about same light and topic was just posting what my CEL codes are. I've had the alternator tested and it passed and I've checked the square fuse on the positive battery cable and it appears to be good.
