Power Steering Problem- Not your normal symptoms

Ok guys I've searched numerous posts, and done the suggested procedures, but cannot solve my problem. Let me start by giving a little background of the incident.

Ok so I was driving this morning and at one moment the power steering light comes on and I completely loose the power steering, so I pull over and turn the car off since I knew I could probably reset it since it's electric. This worked, but now the steering feels very light. Handling isn't compromised, just the road feel. I know i'm not imagining this because I even just turned the wheel back and forth sitting still, and it was way too easy to turn. I've cleaned the connectors, and pulled the battery with no success. I'm not getting your normal symptoms because unlike most of these incidents, the power steering loss is reoccurring, but mine hasn't failed again at all. I've driven at least 30 miles today, over 3-4 different drives, and it's fine, just light feeling. I don't know what it could be because the only things I can think of are: bad power steering control module, steering rack, or the steering gear?

If anyone has any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it because right now is not the time for me to be able to drop 1k to fix this if it isn't necessary. I'll most likely be taking it to a local shop that specializes in Rotaries tomorrow.

You didn't happen to just put air in the tires did you? I know that silly, but to be honest it's the only thing I can really think of besides.............and I'm not sure this is possible.........that the alternator is putting out too much voltage and it's effecting the PS more than other things? I'm not sure what the voltage inputs look like on the PS, but if the voltage was a little high, it really shouldn't matter too much. Just trying to think of what it could be since you swear it's not your imagination.
