Power loss past 7K RPM
Hi ya'll,
My 2004 RX8 with 59,000 miles has been acting up on me. Not entirely sure what's the issue so i'd like someone to shed some light on the possibilities. Here's a link of me redlining 1st and 2nd gear SSV stuck? TB and MAF? Fuel pump? Bad ignition coils, plugs and wires? I really don't want to guess on the problem and spend money on something that won't help. If you can point me in the right direction, I would forever be in your debt. |
Considering how smooth it still it and sounds, I'd say that you are choking the airflow in or the exhaust flow out, and the very high RPM high load just can't move as much air as it wants to. I'd suspect a somewhat restricted air filter and/or cat.

Check air fuel, if lean, injectors might be clogged

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll take a look at them

Could also be the VDI solenoid is stuck shut.
EDIT: Looking at the video again, seems the powerloss is closer to 6k, meaning the APV. I would start testing some solenoids, make sure they are actually working. |

More like 3750; 5500 is the VFAD

Hey guys, little update. Car's been running fantastic as of late. I recently started using Idemitsu's pre-mix and there are no apparent issues as of late. No CEL (which it never had), idles well, good gas mileage, power is great, no smoke.
On the back of the bottle is says it cleans fuel injectors, in response to MaD666MaX's comment, I think you were right. |
Ended up being a plugged fuel filter
|
Since the RX8 doesn't have one I feel compelled to ask, what fuel filter?
|
The sock in the fuel pump
