Power Loss at high speed, up hill

Hey everyone,

Been having this small issue with my car where I lose power going up hill at high speeds. It only happens when it's on a sustained uphill.

Scenario: Going up a half mile stretch of road at a gradually increasing incline i'll feel power loss about half way trough @ between 90mph and 110mph. It's almost as if it cuts off fuel to the engine.

It sounds to me like it might be a fuel starvation problem or detonation. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Nothing's been done to the engine and it has about 93k miles

Thanks

also...changed spark plugs, wires and coils around 30k miles ago.

Does this happen when it is hot outside and you have less than a 1/4 tank of gas? Could be the fuel pump. Put fresh cool gas in the car and try again.
Also, it could be that your catalytic converter is plugged. Does it glow red after being run for a while? Do you have any engine codes that can be read?

Coils, same happened to me. Replaced all 4 coils and the issue was gone.

Coils or cat will usually throw a CEL (though not necessarily...)

I had the same issue and it was my fuel pump.

I was thinking it might be a fuel delivery issue, ie. fuel filter/pump, injectors not being able to keep up. I'll replace the former and if that doesn't work i'll do the injectors too. Seems odd that the coils would go bad after 30k miles.

I'll report back soon.

Our coils "average" about 30K, i would go for coils first since its cheaper, easier, and they are due for replacement anyways. Then if the problem persist troubleshoot the fuel pump.

Are there any better replacement coils? Anything that lasts longer?
