Power loss + DSC light flashing

Hi all,

I tried searching for power loss + DSC, but couldn't find anything. So last night I was driving home for 20 minutes on the freeway (ambient temps around 60), and I had power loss above 3000 rpm. The whole time, the DSC light was flashing. After 2 minutes, it was back to normal. Today, the same thing happened after I drove the car on the freeway for 30 minutes, and then a few redlines after that.

Is it possible that it's a clogged cat? I have the RP high flow cat and I got a permanent CEL about 2 months ago after I got the RB street flash. Then I went to the track last month in 100 degree ambient temps and my engine was overheating half the time. I'm hoping that it's just the cat that melted. Do you guys think it might be the engine or something else?

if your dsc light is flashing, it has nothing to do with the the cat or the engine..

Any idea what it could be? It was pretty severe power loss. I could only maintain speed no matter what gear I was in.

DSC and power loss will kick in with even a small tire pressure differential.

Check to see which of your rear tires has a nail in it.

i had this problem before. are u running on 4AT Type E? i think the car switched to safe mode because it detected a problem.

all my mechanic do is pull out the battery, reset and everything went back ok.

we never knew whats wrong. its wise to check it with a diagnosis.

i got my cat clok after a few months and blew my engine.

It turned out to be a bad coil. I had the dealer replace it. Thanks for the input guys!

Guys, I realize I'm bumping an ANCIENT thread here, but seem to be having the same issue and my dealer's been no help.

2 days ago, 70 MPH on the freeway, hit the gas to change lanes when the DSC light lit up and the car would not accelerate. I started pulling over to the right to exit the freeway and the car would not maintain speed when I had my foot on the gas. Every time I hit the pedal, DSC came back on.

I took it into the dealership and they diagnosed it as a battery issue. They cleaned up the posts, detailed the engine (to check for unrelated oil leaks), and sent me on my way. I picked up the car last night and it did the same thing to me this morning.

I'm guessing a DSC sensor must be shot. It's probably worth noting I'm on aftermarket wheels with no TPMS as well.

When I found limpy's post, I thought I had found the problem, but my coils are less than 18 months old. They were replaced in Feb 2013.

Thoughts?

Hi guys! I need some input! 2004 rx8 mt, was running fine when shut off then when started back up exhaust sounded different and there was hesitation. After a few min driving cel flashed for a few seconds then was off but still lack power and exhaust sound is off. Any ideas? Plugs and coils or cat?

I had this same issue yesterday. 70 mph DSC starts flashing, loss of power. Turning the DSC off helped. Will check pressure and unplug battery.

I had the same problem in my 8 I took it in for a diagnostics at mazda because I feared it was the engine giving up on me turned out to be the cat completely plugged up got it replaced and am planning to pick it up tomorrow mazda assured me it runs great now.
Update next day car runs like a dream better than it did when I first bought it cost me enough but it's worth it I love my rx8 :)
