I have mine in the shop for the last week. They told me that some people have had 4 or 5 new engines put in the same car for the same reason (hence the 100K mile extension on the warranty). The rotor tips start to go in the some of the motors, lowering the compression, dropping the power.... get another one

Hi Andy,

What year is your car; mileage / warranty? AT or MT? What other things were checked/replaced before they decided you needed a new engine (ie: the car's repair history).

Please also try to describe the actual circumstances where the power loss is happening. (Like: Under long sustained acceleration and the power drops off; or, Just struggling to accelerate at highway speeds, etc.)

There are some very clever folk on this forum, but the more info you can provide at the outset - the better the result....

Initial guesses:

In the absence of any CEL's, or misfire.

Check for a restriction in the cat converter. There is a Mazda procedure for this.

Failing that, check the ignition system (coils), and fuel fiilter sock in the fueltank.

(you see, there are a lot of variables...)

I'd go back to where they replaced the engine, and tell them the symptoms.
