I'm just going by my own experience here... but try disconnecting and reconnecting the little wire harness/plug in the back, bottom part of the seat closest to the center of the car by the adjustment rail.
Seems like everytime I vac my carpets and move the seats to get around, I end up with an airbag light and have to go fiddle with those connections. I've checked the prongs and wires leading into the plugs and all seems normal, it's just one of those things... but always works for me.

I was actually going to mention that my airbag light is usually accompanied by the seat warmer not working. I'm sure you need to go through the connections.

Stopped taking anything for granted on here years ago ;)

still stumped
dannobre i have like a "wiggle of play" with the airbag hook up sensor
im gunna find some rx8 troubleshooting manual tips

dannobre 12-10-2012 03:34 PM

First thing I would do is check and see if there are airbags in the seats.....often body shops don't replace them after accidents...or someone might have taken them out of the seats.

Another place to check is the connectors..they are a PIA to disconnect...and they may have been pulled very hard to disconnect them and broken a wire...especially if the heater isn't working either

I figured out the problem well sort of... I swapped my 08 with 04 interior the 08 had a magnetic weight sensor for the air bag the 04 does not now how to trick the system is the question

Interesting...
So does the plug/connection still match up?
Unless somebody sheds some light on it for you, you'll probably need to get a grasp on the wires/prongs on the plug and how they relate to the components in the seat. I'd start looking through the shop manual, I'm pretty sure the electrical diagrams are detailed enough to figure that part out.
If the magnetic switch thing is true, then there should be 2 prongs on the plug not being used on the seat end, in which case i think you can try jumpering those 2 prongs only on the floor end and would simulate the switch in the closed position.

You did check fuses yes...? :)

Let us know, I'm curious

CForette 12-11-2012 08:51 AM

Yes I checks fuses very firs thing I checked, the seats come apart to were all I'd have to do I'd swap the cushions but the GIRL I swapped with dosnt think it will work and told me to go buy the part haha u believe that I did the whole swap for her while she complained she was cools the whole time. But I've been jumping around three google and some people have found the wire but I'm going to check the workshop manual today figure out witch is witch and loop these wires wishe luck and I havnt messed with the Warmers yet airbag is top priority

dannobre 12-11-2012 05:56 PM

Be careful ;)

Airbags go boom if the electrical connections are wrong :)

lilring 12-11-2012 08:28 PM

check the connectors.. make sure each wire is fully in the connector and is plugged in all the way. .. Also make sure the wires are in one piece. a little chaffing will cause the light as well. Also, if you started the car with out the connectors plugged in, you will get a code and you need to delete it.. Hook up a good scanner and look at exactly which code it is

I wouldn't be messing with the airbag harness I'd be messing with the seņor wires that tells the airbag on or off witch is a different hardness do u think it good still go boom it's just a on of switch like some cars have it key controlled airbag we have weight controlled and guy above me we found out the main problem the seats don't have the weight sensor thus is why airbag light is on

lilring 12-12-2012 06:33 PM

as long as you disconnect your battery and let it sit for a least 30 mins before you mess with it. The air bags will not go off

CForette 12-22-2012 10:00 PM

ok problem SOLVED... i took my orginal seat from the person i swaped and took the bottom frame off and its totally different has so much more components but i swaped the frames and no more airbag light so my wife and 11 month old will be safe at last and i just bought his front facing car seat to match interior. last i painted the seat shells and the rotary symbol waiting for my new shift boot and know ill post pics when the interior is finished...
