P2259 and P0661...low voltage from battery?
 

I sent my car in to have these looked at as well as my AC, which stopped blowing cold air last week, and to have a compression test just to see where I'm at (2004 MT, 70K miles).
They are saying the error codes are due to low voltage, and are charging my battery.
Anyone have thoughts on that? This is a new-ish battery (less than 1 year), and I have no other battery related issues (car always starts strongly). I've looked through these forums for those codes before, and don't recall seeing anything related to battery. I did pull the two plugs and replug them several times (SSV and air maybe?) but the CEL persists.

I do not believe that your battery has anything to do with these codes. Possibly your solenoid or harness went bad. There is also a possibility that dirt has been accumulated between the harness and solenoid.

Isn't that the alternator's job?

Yep. They've chanced their mind on that diagnosis, not sure why but it seems like they're havin a hard time figuring it out. They're gonna work with Mazda support Monday morning. In the past they've been pretty competent so I trust they know what they're doing. For now anyway :).
I also had them do a compression test, which failed. They've got to get Mazda support to approve next steps on that issue as well.

You can get some wierd sensor related codes from a bad ground too.

Those valves and sensors ground thru the ECU, at the #1 ground between the shock tower and the firewall, pass side.

I threw the same P2259 code just recently and I scanned it as air solenoid control valve circuit low on 2 CCM. Is this just the solenoid or does this have to do with something getting stuck in the intake?

Mazda is telling me it's the air pump that's the cause. Could the air pump cause a P2259 code, or are they just trying to make money on me?

What did you wind up doing with this? I'm having the same CEL now as well. Wondering if it's a serious issue or something that can be fixed/cleared easily.

Mazda tried to to get me for an air pump for $869. When I called them out and said I wasn't getting an air pump code they said you can't go by the code. Go figure, I thought the CEL code showed exactly where you should be looking. Anyway, I went to my rotary mechanic and he ended up checking all sensors, replacing the solenoid, and cleaning the engine for around $400. hasn't thrown a cel since.

Well I found my issue. :) CEL hasn't come back since I put a K&N filter in.

^Oh my, the filter is a bit dirty. Check your maf sensor as well if you have not already. I am sure it needs to be cleaned.

Yeah that's up next, gotta find some contact cleaner.

Mmk, cleaned the MAF the other day and it didn't make as big of a difference as I had hoped. I've got a mildly rough idle that isn't really a big deal but I'd love to have my baby purring.

The CEL came back on yesterday - although I haven't pulled the code yet I'm pretty sure it's the same one. Haven't noticed any specific issues but if it's like what others have said, the Air Solenoid only kicks in when the engine is warming up? The CEL came on when I cranked up the car on a warm start, oddly enough.

^If it is P2259 you got to check your solenoid or the connection. You could ignore the code though since the solenoid is pretty useless for our car. It only works during warm up. As far as your rough idle you might want to clean the ess sensor. Further, how many miles you have on you plugs, wires, and coils? These usually last for about 25000 miles.

Yeah as far as it being an issue, I haven't noticed any problems related to the CEL.

I bought the car about 2 months ago, it's at 90k miles and I'm not sure how the Spark Plugs/Coils are. I haven't had the time or the balls to take off the front wheel to get to them. I'd hate to mess up the alignment putting the wheel back on and become one of those horror stories about somebody bending a rotor. I'll probably just man up and check them soon. If whoever had it before me was as bad about checking/changing the plugs as they were about the air filter, they're probably in bad shape.

Do not procrastinate that. Bad plugs or coils can cause bigger problems.
